I may live in Pennsylvania now, but I'm a Jersey girl through and through, and the Jersey Shore has played a very important part in my life. Regardless of whatever drama or unhappiness I might have in my life, the shore has always, always been my refuge, on both parts of New Jersey, South and Central.

I spent my childhood summers in Ocean City NJ, and went to college at Monmouth, near Long Branch, Asbury Park. Lived in Ocean Grove my senior year. Spent the first few years of my adult life living in Atlantic Highlands and the Highlands.

The damage Sandy caused is mind-boggling. The places I loved are seriously changed forever. It's hard to wrap my mind around it. I pray that all those places can get back on their feet, and that the people who live there will recover.

Seaside Heights was my friend Kathy's and my beach of choice when we were teens and young adults. Her grandparents had a house three blocks from the boardwalk, and we would stay there and when we would come back from a day at the beach, her grandmom would ply us with lasagne.

You went to college right around the corner from where my sister lives in Oakhurst!

What hurts me is seeing a town I lived in for 9 years (including high school and college) devestated. OK, so technically, my address was the Boro, we did most of our shopping and even went to church in Point Pleasant Beach.

I broke down and messaged St. Michael's Church in West End Long Branch. I spent my summers at the house next door to it as a kid. My grandmother sold the house a dozen years ago, but it's still such a part of me that I needed to know if it weathered the storm. I miss Takanassee Lake and the beach.
