On the last day of 2004

Now seems as good a time as ever to look back on 2004 and list, as others are doing, what I accomplished this year...
I managed to change jobs twice within one year. But I also finally got out of working in Philadelphia, so that's a plus.
Also, I'm finally in a job I like, and am no longer an administrative assistant. Hurrah.
I did make some new friends this year, and that is always a good thing.
I've started writing again, not as much as I should be, but still, I'm feeling a bit more creative than I have been in the last few years.
Other than that, not much else happened in RL. We all got a little older, and hopefully a little wiser.
In my internet life, I wrote a few fan fiction stories in 2004, my first being a Labyrinth story that I'd been wanting to write since college, but, since the internet in its current incarnation didn't exist then, couldn't. I am rather proud of the way that story came out. I think fanfiction is an art form in its own right, and it is gratifying to know someone other than a family member or RL friend has read something I wrote. Makes me feel sort of published.
I started this journal in March of 2004, mostly because I'd stumbled onto
deleterius and wanted to play. I felt a bit silly writing my first post - sort of like talking to myself, but then
zambinigirl friended me, and since then I've developed a nice group of LJ friends I like hearing about and from. I do think one of the greatest things about the internet is that people, regardless of who they are or where they live in RL can find other people who share the same interests, and it makes the world a slightly friendlier place. I like to think that it is the first step in everyone in the world realising that the differences are far less important than what we all share. Maybe it's the first step towards real peace.
So happy new year, everyone. I hope all your wishes come true!

on 2004-12-31 06:31 pm (UTC)Me too. I'm really enjoying the feedback aspect of online writing. It is really interesting to hear what people have to say about your work, and I really love the interactive aspect of online fandom.
I started my LJ in April, and was very fortunate to have several RL friends who had them already. I really enjoy writing LJ entries, and now when I find myself in a surreal situation I immediately think, "This will make a great LJ entry." Hee.
