Terry Pratchett!

Just got back from the book signing, and I did gather my nerves, and ask Terry if he thought Rowan Atkinson would make a good Patrician. He said that he thought he could do it as long as he didn't 'camp it up, and say things like,' here he paused, and, in a perfect Blackadder voice said, 'Bob.'
I then mentioned Hugh Laurie and he said 'As in 'House'?' and I said yes and he said that he would be a good Vimes, but not if he were doing any of his earlier characters. Then he mentioned someone called Peter something that sounded a bit like Pettigrew would have been good 10 years ago.
To the guy in line in front of me, Terry, when he learned the guy's name was Brandon, mentioned the movie Galaxy Quest, and how one of the fan boys in the movie was called Brandon and Line Brandon had no idea what Terry was talking about. Terry was gobsmacked that the kid never saw the movie, and encouraged him to see it ASAP. 'One of the best SF films ever,' he said. He said he envied Line Brandon, as he still has the movie to look forward to.
And, for the record, he didn't seem to like the Hitchhiker's movie very much.
And he laughed at my seriously falling apart and dog-eared copy of Good Omens, and I was pleased as I brought that book for that specific purpose. He sniffed it to see if it had fallen in anything.
He's awesome. That is all.
Off to read Thud! now! Hurrah!
PS I asked if he saw Phantom of the Opera movie, and told him he ruined it for me, as everytime I saw a note from the Phantom I burst into laughter, and he said that it was a great play, not so much a good movie.
Oh! And also - they're working on a musical version of Only You Can Save Mankind and he has a bunch of tracks for it and one of the songs is Call Me Sigourney.

on 2005-09-15 01:14 pm (UTC)Did Neil put a '333' on your book when he signed? Because Terry wrote '333' on mine, and I wondered if Neil does that too, because...well, you know.

on 2005-09-15 10:20 pm (UTC)Anyway, Terry likes Galaxy Quest? Snap! I knew he had good taste. Brandon should be proud now. Those fankids were cool, no?
"Are you writing this down? Commander, we haven't gotten to the relevant conundrum!"
