It's 7:30 and dark out and my brain thinks it's bedtime. Sad, no?

So...went to the book festival, and again I just have to say how much I love my town. Gotta love a town that shuts down main street to celebrate books. Several people were there shilling their books they obviously self-published, which I thought was interesting. Briefly pondered about doing that myself next year. I don't know, though. The self-publishing things seems like cheating to me. Although, with the internet and all, it's really kind of a different market any more.

I did buy a few books. Ready to laugh at me? I bought 3 Xena novelizations. Until now I've only read Xena fan-fiction so I'm sure I'll go through the entire book wondering when the Gabby/Xena slash is going to kick in. Well, hopefully they left the sub-text in.

Got my hair cut, and then we went to The Pop Shop for lunch. My new favorite place, as you can tell. One of the waitresses waved at me because she recognized me. Sort of embarrassing. I'm happy to report all the service problems seem to be solved, and the food is as yummy as ever.

The other thing I love about my town is the fact that you could toss a stone in any direction and hit a same sex couple. We were at this park and this male couple were there with their adorable little girls. I kept thinking I wish I could force people like George Bush to see this - 'Look, a loving, committed couple spending time with their children. Not exactly ripping at the fabric of our society, is it?'

I almost forgot! the very last booth at the festival was offering free 'stress tests' but when I got closer I noticed they also has Dianetics! Scientoligists in my town! I was slightly tempted to go hear what they had to say, just so I could mock them later, but only slightly.

Well, that's the boring details of my Saturday. I hope everyone had a good day. [livejournal.com profile] justleakynow, I hope your day got better, and the house was everything you hoped it would be! [livejournal.com profile] slammerkinbabe, I hope the move went well and you and your girlfriend are relaxing with pizza and a bottle of wine!

Sounds like a great town. I think that even if Bush saw the same thing as you he wouldn't be seeing the same thing.

Wasn't Collingswood voted the most gay-friendly town in Jersey or something like that? I do so adore it here ^-^ Have you ever met Jon and David? They're my neighbors and are possibly the most wonderful people in the world. But maybe I just think that because David is a pastry chef.

Anyway, I'm glad the book festival was fun! Sorry I missed it. Did you see Larry Kane at all?

...and omg, we have Scientologists? *dies*

Oh oh oh, is your icon from The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime, or am I making that up?

Yes, my icon IS from the Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime. Well done.

Not sure if I met John and David, but I suck at names, so I might have. Always good to know a pastry chef!

Not sure if the Scientologists were imported or what. Didn't get close enough to find out! :)

We didn't get to the fair - alejandro was freaked out - and the day was okay, thanks.

Connie, from the pop shop, is a self publisher. She's done some cookbooks and stuff - her website is www.smallpotatoespress.com

Also, I saw a whole bunch of self-publishing websites that looked pretty cool. I forget where, though.

Which Xena books did you get? I am a huge collector of all that is Xena, but in truth, I never got into the fanfic. Throw a butch detective and an icy ADA or a growling Scottish warden and a no-hope lifer at me and I am ALL over teh fanfic.

And with you loving all that is British, have you heard of Bad Girls? I am making it my mission to make this a hit in the states.

Xena books - I got Prophecy of Darkness - there's a 12 year old seer involved, The Huntress and the Sphinx - Atalanta s involved and The Empty Throne - some town where all the men have disappeared. (It THAT one doesn't have girl/girl subtext I'll be surprised!)

Also Logo Channel is doing a Xena marathon today. New channel. V.cool.

Ohhh...book sale! Yay! I'm so jealous. I'm making myself not buy any more books until I actually *read* all the books I've already bought. We'll see how long that lasts...

Last year at our state fair I went to the "Stress Test" booth and asked the guy if he believed in Xenu and that millions of little space aliens make up every human, and he totally wouldn't answer me. He got so defensive and said that wasn't true and that wasn't what Scientology was all about. It was fun.

Let's see pictures of your hair cut!
