Back in September, after a silly conversation on
slammerkinbabe's journal wherein I made a silly version of the Lama Song in honor of her new apartment getting,
chavvah said she wanted a lama song for her impending thesis. I rose to the challange, (more or less) looked up the original Lama Song lyrics, stole from it shamelessly, and made a 'thesis song' for her. Well, recently to my infinite delight, someone deemed it worthy to go onto Metaquotes.
The coolest thing is someone said she was going to print it out and hang it in her office so the grad students could see it. Something sort of cool about going from electronic to actual print, isn't it? Even if it isn't 100% my own work. Well, it's parody, I guess. Parody counts, right?
So, Charlie has been saying that his new favorite fruit is "Durains". I couldn't for the life of me figure out what he was talking about. Was he mispronouncing something? If so, what could it possibly be? Today the mystery was, at least partially, solved. He pulled me into his play room and pointed to his television, where "Mario Sunshine" was doing whatever it the game is supposed to do. Charlie pointed to this large, bumpy, oblong, yellowish thing that Mario was kicking around and said, "That's a Durains.'
Oh.
I still don't know if he actually named the fruit himself or if it is actually what they call it in the game.
Half the offices in my building were closed today for Columbus Day, as was Charlie's school. Why is this a day off sort of holiday? Do people have to stay home all day cooking their Columbus Day feasts? Are there big parades I'm somehow missing out on? Do people dress up as Italian sailors and put on pageants? Why is this a day off holiday, and why do I never, ever, work for a company who believes in it?

on 2005-10-10 11:37 pm (UTC)No, seriously, I don't entirely understand it either, but I do know that it's an inservice day for most schools. So basically they let us have the day off because it is a holiday, but not a major one so they can have a teacher inservice. I suppose. I honestly don't entirely know.
It's weird how only some schools/companies give the day off, though. This guy I work with goes to Haddon Heights HS, and he had to go to school today. A moment of silence for Kevin, please...
