My mother always calls the day after Daylight Savings Time (or, as in the case, the ending of it) "Really Is" Day, because people will say things like, "It is 7am, but it really is 8am."

This morning, I knew Charlie was awake because he was in his room singing "I Write the Songs",* and I was thinking (while laughing) that I hope I can give him the kind of life where he always wakes up singing.

*Because it is on his electronic piano, not because we're secretly Barry Mannilow fans or anything.

"Really Is Day" I love that! I think of it that way all day!

"Really Is" Day -- that's awesome! And I had forgotten about it until I read your post, so thanks for that.

I was just listening to "Mandy" in the car yesterday. For myself and friends, I made up a Buffy/Angel soundtrack of songs that appear on the show, and I had to include that because it's Angel's favorite song. That's the only reason it's on my iPod. Not because I was a Manilow fanatic around age 12-13, and there's a nostalgic part of me that still enjoys listening to "Mandy."

Er, I realized I was being unclear both in regular English and in internet parlance. That CD was of songs that were used on both shows, Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel, not a CD of love songs dedicated to the Buffy/Angel ship.

Why would that have been more embarrassing than listening to Manilow? I don't know, it just is (for one thing, I'm not much of a shipper of anybody, let alone one who makes CDs for my ship), so I had to clarify! :)

Am I allowed to plead guilty to liking Barry Manilow?

You know you were singing along with him.

Sing along with me now:

Oooh Mandy
You came and you gave without taking
But I sent you away
Oh Mandy
You kissed me and stopped me from shaking
But I need you today
Oh Mandy

Barry Manilow is welcome in my house.

*strikes dramatic singing pose*

Yesterday's a dream
I face the morning
Crying on a breeze
The pain is calling
Oh Mandy
You came and you gave without takin'...

Oh, darn, and here I thought I was finding someone else who shared the lonely burden of being a secret fan of the man who used to play piano for Bette Midler. :) I put it down to that part of my animus that loves show tunes and lounge music, and which is gay as a day in May. I must confess that I have a secret weakness for Mr. Manilow.

Well, considering Charlie only knows the words to the song because I sang them to him, I probably am a secret Barry Mannilow fan. Just in deep denial. :)

Makes the day so short.

That's a key, important footnote there!
