But I've two interviews on Monday, so I deserve a break, right?

Just watched this movie on cable called Unconditional Love. Looked it up on IMDB and apparently it was never released in theatres, which is too bad, but makes sense, because it is a brilliant movie that would've have gone over the average audience's head.

Stars Kathy Bates and Rupert Everett and Jonathan Pryce and is just a very original movie. Kathy plays a middle aged housewife who is a long time fan of this Barry Manilow/Tom Jones type singer called Victor Fox. It' rather a complicated story but basically Kathy Bates is a housewife who's husband just left her because he decided he longed for adventure - tells her it is 'her fault' which is sort of a running theme. Victor Fox is murdered and on impulse she decides to go to the UK to his funeral and discovers that Victor was actually gay, and had a long term partner, played brilliantly by Rupert Everett.

Anyway...it is a good, fun, touching and over the top movie. The cast is stellar and has a really funny cameo by Julie Andrews.

Speaking of Rupert Everett, a friend of mine recently expressed the opinion that it was hard for her to see a gay actor in a straight role because 'how can you fantasize about him if you know he's gay?' I was watching Rupert in this movie, where he actually played gay, and had no problems fantasizing about him. The man is gorgeous. I don't care who he sleeps with. I just like looking at him.

Anyway...Must go do stuff now. Maybe.

What? Real People actually say that? I thought that was just a Studio Justification for not casting openly Gay actors. And anyway, it's not like she'd have a shot with Rupert Everett even if he was straight. Crazy.

I personally only fantasize about unavailable men- if I can have them, why not just go do it?

I know! That's what I thought. She used Rock Hudson as an example. How his career would've been ruined because women want to fantaize about kissing him. I'm all, no, his career would've been ruined because he was famous in the 50's, when people were seriously repressed about things. Doesn't ruin his movies now, I don't think, to know that he was gay.

My brother in law actually had a nodding aquaintance with Rupert E. I was very jealous. :)

*raises hand* I too lust after Rupert Everett - and I didn't even know he was gay. And it doesn't make the least bit of difference, cuz he is yummy.

Congrats on the interviews! And yes, that does mean you deserve a break. You'll more than make up for it on Monday, I'm sure.

Good luck on the interviews! Didn't take you long to get something lined up. Rupert Everett is hawt, I'm an equal opportunity fantasizer.

I've been told by several people (gay AND straight) that the best part of "My Best Friend's Wedding" was when Julia Roberts ended up in Rupert Everett's arms at the end. True, they were together simply as good friends, and he was there mainly to offer her comfort, but it still made a much better ending than if she were to have actually won Dermot Mulroney.

Besides, it shouldn't matter what someone's sexual orientation is when it comes to being attracted to them. For example, I absolutely lust over Matthew McConaughey though I know him to be straight; and I can't stand Tom Cruise though I know him to be gay. >=)

Possibly the best Tom Cruise comment ever.

I was watching Rupert play Sherlock Holmes in a BBC TV thing about a month ago. I think he did a better job than anyone else I've seen play SH so far. He really had the cranky bastard part down pat, and he seemed VERY jealous of Watson's fiancee. Which, you know...hee!

He's a good actor. I think it's hard for an actor like Ian McKellan or Rupert Everett to come "out" about their gayness, because then it prejudices people about the roles they can play, and whether or not they can carry off being a leading man.

And besides, you can fantasize about any actor or actress, it's not like you'd ever have a chance anyway.

I haven't seen that movie so I must look for it. I think Rupes is adorable and of course he can play straight leading men...he's an actor. And I fantasise about gay men ALL the time quite happily. Bet he wouldn't go on about how hard *cough* it is either. He's also a pretty good novelist did you know?

No, I didn't know. What did he write?

Hello Darling Are You Working? is the one I've read, though he has written another novel too. I liked the book but my co-reviewer didn't. I got the impression a lot of it was thinly disguised autobiography. I've adored Rupert ever since Another Country when he was just a beautiful slip of a boy. Sigh.

Oh, yeah, I loved that movie! Kathy Bates was stellar, as was the gorgeous Mr. Everett. I have perved over him for years, even when I found out he was gay. Now I don't fantasize about him with myself, but I can see him with other actors *wink wink!*. He has, besides a lovely body and gorgeous face, one of the most beautiful smiles anywhere. While watching My Best Friend's Wedding, it was hard to choose who had the bigger smile, Julia or Rupert!!
