The Music of the Night
Jan. 1st, 2005 11:42 pmJust got back from seeing The Phantom of the Opera - movie. It was good. Better than I'd thought even. I thought the guy playing the Phantom had a great voice. My only complaint would be the fact that he was pretty darned good looking. It was hard to get too afraid of him. Well, okay, so he killed people. Still...he was good looking, even after his mask was off.
My brain also kept tossing Terry Pratchett at me as I watched the film - scenes from "Maskarade" kept popping in my head. The first time a note dropped dramatically to the floor, all I could think of was 'Ahhahhaaahaaha!!! Yrs. The Opera Ghost.'
Also, Paul Kirby was the art director for the film, thus enhancing the whole Terry Pratchett vibe. I want to see it again, just to see if I can spot any possible Discworld shout-outs hidden in the scenery.
I quite enjoyed the movie; I'd forgotten how much I liked the music from it, and I think they did a nice job of translating it to film. All the actors were quite good - Minnie Driver was really funny as Carlotta, and the singing was lovely. So, it gets a thumbs up from me.
Good night, and happy new year!
