charliesmum: (Muppet News - This Just In)
Just want to add my good thoughts and hopes for safety to everyone in Louisiana area who are being threatened with Katrina*, especially [livejournal.com profile] aurictech who is actively involved in rescue missions and so forth. And I think [livejournal.com profile] deviantauthor lives around there too, so I hope she is okay. And all the people I don't know.

In less somber news, Charlie is now at my parent's house for the next few days, where he will be spoiled and taken to the boardwalk and the beach and the pool. My father was trying to think of movies starring Connie Stevens he could rent, since he thinks it is totally funny Charlie thinks she is 'cute'.

Speaking of stars from yesteryear that have recently become Charlie's new favorites, I actually spent money on a CD by Paul Williams. And it's rather fun to listen to, I must admit. I didn't know he'd written 'We've Only Just Begun', the wedding song of choice for many a couple in the early 70s. And he dedicated the album thusly: There are people who listen and people who wait to talk. This is dedicated to the listeners. Good old Age of Aquarius philosophy. Gotta love it.

I had a dream last night with Spike from Buffy in it. It was a good dream.

Right. Back to work, you.

*Which totally makes me think of that stupid song 'Walking on Sunshine' by Katrina and the Waves, leading me to wonder who will be the first to make a pun about that since it is a hurricane after all, and then questioning if that song and group could even be resurrected for an inappropriate pun 20 some odd years after it was a one hit wonder. Then I think that I really need to get a life.

So I was talking to my mother this weekend about the movie Kinsey. She remembers this because it was from 'her era', and then she tells me, "My Aunt Ginny* was one of his researchers." In other words, this woman was one of the people who asked all the questions to get the data to go into the books.

Well, I thought that was extremely cool. Unfortunately Aunt Ginny died when I was a little girl, so I have no way of speaking to her and finding out first hand what it was like to work with Kinsey.

(And after seeing the movie, I do wonder if she participated in any of the spouse swapping that apparently went on. Perhaps it is best not to know.)

*Not, in actuality, an Aunt. She was my grandmother's best friend. She had a daughter around my mother's age, and they grew up together.
