charliesmum: (Clue Pale and Tragic (by Kimyoo icons))
Today I decided would be a 'non-working' day, since I already put in 2 1/2 days, and only get paid for 2, and I decided today would be a day that I got things done.

Actually, I didn't really decide it, it just happened that way.

The first thing I got done was to get rid of the dead truck that was living in our driveway acting like a skip for the last two-thousand years. Over a year ago, at the start of all our dead truck woes, this red Toyota died in its sleep, and has been basically buried in our driveway ever since. Multiple requests for the husband to take care of it fell on deaf ears or into the abyss know as "I was gonna". This morning I suddenly came to the conclusion that I had all I could takes and can't takes it no more, and got out the phone book, looked up a auto wreckage place who said they could haul it away for $15. I said sold.

I then spent the next 1/2 hour cleaning out this car. And when I said it was acting like a skip, I wasn't kidding. It was full of trash, along with several tools the my husband probably forgot he had and about four-million screws and nails. However, I was rewarded. In the glove box I found a $25 gift certificate to Home Depot that some home owner had given to the husband ages ago, and he obviously forgot about.

So after I waved the truck away and shouted Huzzah, I took the certificate to Home Depot. Well, actually, for the sake of completeness, I first went to Goodwill and dropped off the three bags of clothes I'd weeded from my closet recently. Then I went to Home Depot.

Now, there's not a whole lot at Home Depot that I'd care to buy. The things I'd like, like a new kitchen or bathroom cost way more than $25, and frankly tools make me go cross-eyed from boredom. And I don't need tools.

But, you know what they do have at Home Depot? Carpets. Rugs. Area rugs, runners, that sort of thing. So, I wandered happily up and down that aisle, thinking I'd like to find something that would go in my foyer. This very nice and handsome gentleman helped me out, and I found a lovely maroon 8x6 area rug that would go nicely in the foyer and complement the colors I have in my living room. And the best part? The rug only cost $21.00. So yay karma.

Then I went to Staples and found this awesome desk for $60.

I didn't buy it yet, but I might. It looks like it would suit my needs. I just couldn't quite bring myself to impluse shop something for that much money.

Then I get a call from these people who are looking for people who can be substitute teachers, and apparently I'm qualified because I breathe and walk upright. Actually, because I have a communications degree. So I'm going to see them on Tuesday. It might be a nice way to suppliment my income if I don't wind up going full time with my current job, and even if I do, they may let me work around the occasional teaching job. So we'll see.

And now Charlie is playing with his friend Joe. And I'm totally evil for saying this, because he's a sweet kid, but I can see how he could very easily get on my nerves. But Charlie likes him, and that's all that's important.

So, that's all the news of me. Fascinating, isn't it.
