Today I decided would be a 'non-working' day, since I already put in 2 1/2 days, and only get paid for 2, and I decided today would be a day that I got things done.

Actually, I didn't really decide it, it just happened that way.

The first thing I got done was to get rid of the dead truck that was living in our driveway acting like a skip for the last two-thousand years. Over a year ago, at the start of all our dead truck woes, this red Toyota died in its sleep, and has been basically buried in our driveway ever since. Multiple requests for the husband to take care of it fell on deaf ears or into the abyss know as "I was gonna". This morning I suddenly came to the conclusion that I had all I could takes and can't takes it no more, and got out the phone book, looked up a auto wreckage place who said they could haul it away for $15. I said sold.

I then spent the next 1/2 hour cleaning out this car. And when I said it was acting like a skip, I wasn't kidding. It was full of trash, along with several tools the my husband probably forgot he had and about four-million screws and nails. However, I was rewarded. In the glove box I found a $25 gift certificate to Home Depot that some home owner had given to the husband ages ago, and he obviously forgot about.

So after I waved the truck away and shouted Huzzah, I took the certificate to Home Depot. Well, actually, for the sake of completeness, I first went to Goodwill and dropped off the three bags of clothes I'd weeded from my closet recently. Then I went to Home Depot.

Now, there's not a whole lot at Home Depot that I'd care to buy. The things I'd like, like a new kitchen or bathroom cost way more than $25, and frankly tools make me go cross-eyed from boredom. And I don't need tools.

But, you know what they do have at Home Depot? Carpets. Rugs. Area rugs, runners, that sort of thing. So, I wandered happily up and down that aisle, thinking I'd like to find something that would go in my foyer. This very nice and handsome gentleman helped me out, and I found a lovely maroon 8x6 area rug that would go nicely in the foyer and complement the colors I have in my living room. And the best part? The rug only cost $21.00. So yay karma.

Then I went to Staples and found this awesome desk for $60.

I didn't buy it yet, but I might. It looks like it would suit my needs. I just couldn't quite bring myself to impluse shop something for that much money.

Then I get a call from these people who are looking for people who can be substitute teachers, and apparently I'm qualified because I breathe and walk upright. Actually, because I have a communications degree. So I'm going to see them on Tuesday. It might be a nice way to suppliment my income if I don't wind up going full time with my current job, and even if I do, they may let me work around the occasional teaching job. So we'll see.

And now Charlie is playing with his friend Joe. And I'm totally evil for saying this, because he's a sweet kid, but I can see how he could very easily get on my nerves. But Charlie likes him, and that's all that's important.

So, that's all the news of me. Fascinating, isn't it.

My icon has nothing to do with anything. I just like it.

Heh. I just got in a bit of subtle propaganda to Kieran yesterday about his choice of friends. We were talking about taking other kids on a trip with us and he listed all his friends that he'd like to go somewhere with, and I said "Any of the others are fine, but I won't take N____ with us. He doesn't listen when I ask him not to do something, so if we do get to go, we won't be able to take him." I've never said I didn't like him or Kieran couldn't play with him, but this kid is seven and he's already trouble. I hope it helps Kieran connect behavior to consequences. He sometimes has a bit of trouble with that.

Good luck with the job, and congrats on getting rid of the truck! :)

I know you just wrote something VERY important, but I can't see it because I'm too entranced by Tim Curry as Wadsworth The Old Butler imitating Mrs. White.

And I really want to watch that movie now all of the sudden.

I need to get a CLUE.

I'm always amused by your endless supply of icons.

Isn't it great when you find a gift certificate? I found a $25 gift certificate to L.L. Bean when I sorted through my childhood books/toys in NH in December. Went toward my new winter jacket. :-)

Everytime my husband ventures to Home Depot,I tag along for just the reasons you described above!
My son Joe has a pal named Nate that he really seems to like but he shows up here EVERY SINGLE day after school..and now wants to start sleeping over on weekends.I don't like ANYONE that much!

That's all fantastic! Yay for good days!

Is the icon Tim Curry?

Yep. It is Tim Curry in the unsuccessful but very entertaining movie Clue, based on the board game. Excellent cast, interesting premise, (three different endings filmed and sent out to different theatres, so you never knew which ending you'd get) semi-amusing plot, badly written script.

I saw part of that! I wonder which ending I saw - I watched about a half hour of it, through to the end. That's such a cool premise. Is it out on DVD?

I need to see the Rocky Horror Picture Show first though.

You really got a lot done, yay for that.
As for the desk - it looks pretty good, but personally I don't handle the 'pull-out keyboard shelf' too well these days. It's usually too low. If you're less picky, however, it certainly looks good

Gah hit enter too soon. The GO part was so on purpose. Also, the tartan I used is my dad's clan- Fletcher. I do think it's one of the prettiest, though it's not one of the most used, like royal Stuart (my mom's clan):

(Oh, and here's my other GO icon that I made. You can have it too if you want.)

My great grandmother was from Scotland - last name Bullock, I was at this Celtic thingy once and this nice lady looked it up for me, and apparently it's a part of the McDonald's clan. Which is sort of a green tartan, I think.
