Today I met two very adorable little girls.

My friends, J and M, the ones who are the moms to Charlie's best friend, decided to become foster parents. Yesterday they got a call for an emergency placement for two little girls, aged 4 and 3, and they accepted, even though it was zero notice. Which just really shows you how amazing these people are.

We don't know much about the family situation except for the fact drugs were involved, and the father tossed the younger girl down the stairs, which I assume is one of the reasons they are in foster care now. If I may be extremely un-PC and probably mean, I would venture to say the parents are what we sometimes call "White Trash" (or Chavs, if you will). Based on the girls' names, I'm guessing the mother was very young when she had them, since she gave them what I think of as princess names. Or Mary-Sue names if you'd rather; she probably thought having children is like having dolls who love you, and couldn't or wouldn't adjust her thinking so she was no longer the center of the universe. And if the father turns out to be some sort of skinhead racist, I wouldn't be at all surprised.

But the girls are beautiful and sweet and smart. The younger one has a cold, and as I was helping J get some supplies since they had next to nothing, I sort of took charge of her, wiping her nose and stuff. Later that afternoon she wanted to cuddle on my lap as she watched Cinderella, which basically turned me into a puddle of goo from the sweetness of it.

I'm sure they are in for some tough times. D., Charlie's friend, is quite happy to have 'sisters', but I'm sure there are going to be times where he's going to miss being the center of attention, and the little girls are going to miss their parents, as unworthy as those people are to have their daughter's love, and it is going to be a big, big adjustment. But they are doing a good thing, and I am in awe of them for doing it.

They need lots of things, really. Pants and warm shirts mostly. They are 2T and 4T. Anything you have would be good. Thanks!!

Plus - good excuse for us to meet in person finally!

I'll keep them in my prayers, life is going to be a bit rough for a while. Glad you could help out, though! Must have been nice to cuddle with a little one.

That's a really wonderful thing for them to do. Poor babies, I hope they never have to go back to the parents - unless the parents clean up, but sadly that doesn't seem to happen often enough. I may still have some 2T and 4T clothes around here, after this benefit dinner thing tomorrow is over, I'll have more time to do things. I'll try to dig through my girls' outgrown stuff this weekend.
