I was watching a few minutes of this show on the Logo Channel; it was a show about two couples getting married in Mass., I think. Anyway, the bit I caught was where they had some blue-haired, much-pierced guy who said he thought homosexuality was disgusting*. He had nothing against the people, mind, but marriage was between a man and a woman, marry your dog, blah blah blah fishcakes.

He was wearing a shirt that said 'Intolerance is a beautiful thing' I believe, and the whole time he was yacking all I could think about was how he would react if suddenly confronted by a group of people holding signs that said blue hair and pierced lips was against nature and should not be tolerated.

I mean, how beautiful of a thing would it be if he was denied enterance into somewhere because he looked like a punk? Not so much, I'm sure.

*I'm sorry, but whenever I hear that 'ew, gross' defense, I can't help but wonder if it squicks them out so much because in their heart of hearts it really, really doesn't.

To answer your asterisked comment, that has actually been shown to be true. The people who are the most homophobic are often those who have latent homosexual drives themselves. Sometimes they are actually discreetly having gay affairs while publicly denouncing it. A very good example of this, Roy Cohn, Senator McCarthy's right hand man during the House UnAmerican Activities Committee hearings, was a very vocal homophobe, but carried on many affairs with men in the privacy of his own home. So, you're definitely not wrong on that one!
