I was just reading my post from last year, and apparently Charlie's hamster Ludo was born one year ago. Which I guess means he may be approaching the end of his life cycle, but I had a gerbil who lived for close to 4 years, so I won't get too worried yet.

I find it amusing that the wankiest community I read tends to be the Buddhist community. Weird, no?

In cute Charlie news, he's been 'learning' Chinese. We like to go to this Chinese/Japanese resturant in town - excellent food, not expensive, and fabulous service, and one day Charlie asked the server how to say 'hello' in Chinese. She told him, and he repeated it, and he has such a good ear that apparently he said it without a trace of accent, because she was impressed. Every time we go there Charlie will ask how to say something, and she is happy to oblige. I think she finds it cute.

We went last night and Charlie said 'hello' to her when we came in as well as 'thank you' when she brought our food. It was very cute. And asked how to say 'you're welcome.'

And that's all I got for now.

Why are you surprised? You think buddhists are immune to wank? We are all learning, all at different stages on our life's path. I'm quite certain we will all be guilty of wank at least at one point or another. Pride goeth before the fall and all that.

Well, I'm not surprised. It's just funny because one would think that the spritual places would be all serene and stuff, but they're not. Because, as you say, we are all learning.

Heh, yeah. I used to be in the Buddhist LJ community, but I got sick of all the drama and left. This was years ago - I guess some things never change!

And that is just too cute about Charlie :D

Eek! One year? I thought their lifespans were like, two years or a little more. The girls got a hamster about a month ago, and he is just the most adorable thing ever. He's great with being held and very friendly. I think all four of us have become pretty attached to him. I think he was pretty young when we got him, because, well, not to be too blunt, but his scrotum?ballsac? was not very noticable when we got him, but it's rather *huge* now, lol. So I think he's just matured recently.

And Charlie with the waitress is too cute. We used to always see a waitress at Denny's who would give Holly math problems when she waited on us. Holly loved it then, thought it was so fun - now that she's not so gung-ho on school, she'd be miffed about it.

That's fine! I will add you back.

I'm happy to listen to anything you need to talk about. What's the exact diagnosis?

Have you discovered The Wiggles yet?

no

OMG! The Wiggles! (http://www.thewiggles.com.au/index2.html) You are so lucky because the Wiggles are now popular in the US. When Charlie was three, they weren't, but his day care had a video and he LOVED them.

I credit the Wiggles with quite a lot of Charlie's recovery, and I'm not the only one. Many parents of Autistic children find their brand of entertainment is really helpful for children with PDD. They are colorful and funy and don't talk down to the kid and the songs are awesome and don't make a parent want to chew her own ears off.

I even wrote an article for Autism Asberger Digest about them in 2003 and we got to meet them. They are really nice. And, er, handsome. Which again, as a mother, helps!

Seriously though. Their songs involve a lot of matching movement to words, and Autistic kids really respond to it.

Charlie started talking because of the Wiggles. With an Australian accent, but still...talking.
