Silly Friday thing

Here is a picture Charlie made in school yesterday.
It is entitled 'Friendship'.

When I was younger, and feeling very lonely and unpopular, this quote about friendship made me feel sort of better:
Don't walk in front of me, I might not follow, don't walk behind me, I might not lead, just walk beside me and be my friend.
Yes, I know it's all sorts of smaltzy, but it helped.
What's your favorite friendship quote or, alternatively, do you have a picture that evokes friendship for you?
If so, share!
ETA:
silverhill made me think of this. It's part of Kermit's speech to Doc Hopper.
. And... well, I've found a whole bunch of friends who have the same dream. And that makes us like a family. That's how I feel about you guys.

"Nothing," said Piglet, taking Pooh's paw. "I just wanted to be sure of you."

on 2006-09-08 07:41 pm (UTC)This is Mark Anthony on Caesar in the Shakespearean oration, but that line, to me, says everything about what you give to a friend, and what you should expect from a friend.
Charlie's drawing is absolutely gorgeous and very warm.

So true.

on 2006-09-08 08:04 pm (UTC)Recently I've been on a Bruce Springsteen kick, and on my drive home from work last night, I was listening to a song of his that's about friendship: No Surrender (link takes you to lyrics with no annoying ads or pop-ups). I was remembering how my best friend Margie wrote the first two lines of that song on the back of her senior picture that she gave to me. Listening to it now, the song has such a different tone to me -- now I'm closer to the age Bruce was when he wrote the song (a few years older, in fact), and I get the wistfulness of it more than I did when I was 17. Especially since I'm still friends with Margie today, even though we don't see each other very often, living in different states as we are.
All that was longer than a quote or a picture, but it's what immediately sprung to my mind!

on 2006-09-09 12:30 am (UTC)It was also one of two songs from that album that were sort of understood to be directed to Steve Van Vandt, who at the time was leaving Bruce's band to strike out on his own. They had been friends and working together since they were teenagers. The other song (which is actually my favorite of the two) is Bobby Jean. Also not a radio-overplayed single. ;)

SO true.

on 2006-09-08 11:40 pm (UTC)but to me, the concept of friendship is accociated to childhood memories and to a song from a cartoon that says 'friendship starts from a smile ...share your smile and it'll come back to you many times'
