So, I had this bath scrubber thing. It was purple and had a cloth piggy on it, and it was old and disgusting and I'd tried to throw it away several times but Charlie kept rescuing it from the trash.

Finally however, I decided that it Really Must Go, because it was just old and gross, so I threw it in the outside trash.

Fast forward to a few minutes ago. Charlie was in the shower. "Mom? Where's the purple piggy?"

I told him I threw it out.

There was silence for a few moments, and then I hear this sobbing.

Charlie really, really liked the purple piggy.

So, the last few minutes were spent comforting a crying Charlie and finally he says to me, "What will make me happy?"

ok maybe i am emotional this week but i am in tears over the demise of the purple piggy too. (ok that possibly isn't any different from any normal week for me)
What will make him happy?? A new very cool scrubber that he choses himself.
but in the mean-time if feel for charlie, and of course poor piggy and mum possibly feeling relieved at the gross piggy gone and a mild dose of guilt??
smiles and hugs.

Kids get attached to the strangest things. Maybe you could take him out to the store and have him pick out a new one himself?

Poor Charlie. Poor you. You did the right thing, though.

smiles cheekily.. i think pp (purple piggy ) and charlie might debate the semantics here of "past it's prime" and "really well used and loved". lol

Oh, Lord. I have memories of that happening as a child.

I swear Charlie's a freaking philosopher or something.

Tell Charlie that his wonderful Mommy can make him happy. And a god dance-a-thon.

OK, that was really supposed to say "good dance-a-thon," not "god dance-a-thon." Typing really really late at night usually isn't a problem for me. Gah.

Although a god dance-a-thon would prove interesting, and might still make Charlie happy.
