Yesterday we woke to discover our heater up and died on, naturally, the coldest day of Autumn so far. Call the heater fix-it guy he comes over early afternoon, does his thing, heater works. For about 5 hours. Darn thing stops firing up. I call and leave a message, not expecting him to be answering his phone as it is after 7 in the evening the night before a holiday, but I explain the situation and ask that he give us a call when he can. I figured he'd come on Friday, which was fine. We weren't going to be home much of today anyway.

This morning I am sitting in my jammies, under several blankets watching Sesame Street with Charlie and wondering vaguely about breakfast when a knoc comes upon the door.

Startled I advance cautiously, wondering who could be knocking at 9am on a holiday, as I wasn't expecting anyone, and there, on my doorstep is the heater guy.

"I got your message late last night," he said, "and I called this morning but I kept getting a busy signal (must have heard my number wrong) so I thought I'd just come over."

I can't believe he came on a holiday morning. We didn't ask or expect him to, but he knows it's bloody cold outside, and I guess he didn't want to have us freezing on a holiday or something.

How nice is that?

ETA: He charged us $10.00
