Was thinking of television again. Lost is moving to 10pm when it comes back, which pretty much means I am not going to watch it 'live' anymore. I just can't watch TV after 10. By then I'm ready to climb into bed and read a bit until I get sleepy.

So then I was thinking of the shows I'm watching, and why I like them, and why a couple of them are starting to wane, and I decided I wanted to see who on my flist watched the shows I watch, and what they watch that I don't. So...Poll:

[Poll #883120]

Can't answer your poll at all. I hardly ever watch television anymore except for our DVDs. Even then it's just sort of on in the background while I read and do other things. The boys have their PBS, but that's all.

10pm? Why?! Not that it's so horribly late (for me, that is, I'm always up til at least midnight), but that means the girls will never be able to watch it now. How annoying.

I've caught a few bits of Heroes and of Gilmore Girls, but they did nothing for me.

I've seen Life on Mars, but I couldn't understand the accents. They definitely weren't BBC accents. Not being able to understand what the actors were saying was a real obstacle.

I've never seen Lost, and I don't want to. it doesn't sound like my kind of thing.

I haven't seen Afterlife, but it only just came on BBC America last Saturday. So maybe I'll watch it this Saturday.

Torchwood? Not available in my area yet. Though I do wish that the Sci-Fi Channel would consider buying it.

I've watched House and liked it, but this year the show lost me with the episode about the autistic kid who was hospitalized for a month before someone thought to shine a light in his eyes. NOT my experience with hospitals. They check every freaking day. I can suspend a lot of disbelief, but that was too much.

Doctor Who? I love it to pieces. I watch it three times a week (twice on BBC America, which is currently showing Nine, and once on the Sci-Fi Channel, which is currently showing Ten).

I don't watch a lot of shows. I am a reality show addict - but only AI, Dancing ones & the Bachelor (which is getting lame). I usually watch movies and I'll stop when I see 30 Minutes Meals with Rachel Ray. Mostly, it is kids shows that my 5yo son is watching! We've been watching Home Alone 1 & 4 a lot this month! LOL

I'm not watching TV, at least any shows. I'm sure I'm hopeless. I spend too much time online instead of watching the telly.

I've lately only watched TV regularly on Sundays. I hope, now that I have cable, that will be changing soon.

We don't get Torchwood yet. *sobs*. I've basically given up on Gilmore Girls, though I catch myself watching it (and regretting it) sometimes now that there's nothing on against it. I'm finishing this season of Nip/Tuck - I dont know that I'll be back next year...it's getting too whack even for Nip/Tuck. Desperate Housewives is good again this season, plus Grey's Anatomy.

Feeling the same way about Gilmore Girls. I'll still watch it, but I've missed a couple of episodes and find myself not caring very much.

At this point I'm just interested in how it will end.

that just sounds like a lot of bad television to me

on the other hand, i like the british tv that shows on a&e

In defence of my choices...

Okay, there's no real defence really. They are all excellently well done, though.

Doctor Who, Torchwood, Afterlife and Life on Mars are all British shows that I love. Afterlife just started on BBC America - it's about a woman who can see dead people and this professor who thinks she's faking it, and it is really gritty and dark - not like Touched by a Ghost Whisperer. Several of the episodes do not have happy endings.

Heroes is surprisingly good. I watched the first episode just to 'see' and was sucked in. House is excellent, thanks mostly to the excellent acting, particularly on Hugh Laurie's part.

It is funny, because they are almost all fantasy/genre shows, which I guess tells you something about me, doesn't it?

The truth is I mostly watch TV during two times of the day right now: One is in the early mornings, after I wake up and before I go "to school" and in the evenings, after I'm back from walking the dog and until I go to bed.

First is from six to seven-nine (varies on different days) and the second is from half past seven-eight to eleven-twelve.

In the mornings I usually watch the boring morning talk shows. Usually as a background while checking email and LJ - the news updates each half-hour help me keep track of time and, occasionaly, I hear something interesting/important. Sometimes I watch Science channel or National Geographic if there's something reallly interesting.
In the evening there is usually nothing on until nine (it's the news or soap opera time). If there are good shows at the nine-ten slot I watch those. That's why I watched Boston Legal and why I watch Ed now. I tried to watch Monk, but as it started at eleven I never finished an episode.
Mostly, however,I end up watching either 'Minutes from Disaster' or the one about flight accidents on National Geographic or DIY (preferably Changing Rooms) and Buy-a-house shows on BBC because that's the best there is when I sit in front of TV (sleepless nights and dumbed afternoons, respectively)

And I think I won't be watching Lost soon. I'm getting tired of it.

I'm kind of episodic (hah!) in my TV watching. I view less and less TV "real time." For example, I just finished watching this week's Heroes like 20 minutes ago, and I watched Torchwood yesterday.

I prefer to get series and blow through them relatively single-mindedly. I enjoy looking for all the little links that are easier to miss when it's a week or more between sittings.

Over last summer I blew through Charmed from start to finish. That was all over the map in terms of quality, of course, but it was fun. This fall I got caught up to present on The Dead Zone. I'd like to see BSG sometime, and I have to say the premise of The Nine fascinates me. The 4400 is also on my gotta check it out list. But it's all too much to try to keep up with in real time.

Darn it all. I just found out that The Nine was cancelled!
