Even though it is still a bit early, I've been starting to make plans for my 1967 themed 40th (yikes) birthday party. To which, by the way, each and every one of you are invited. I realise that most of you don't live anywhere near New Jersey, but heck, should you happen to find yourself in the neighborhood of South Jersey/Philadelphia on May the 26th around 5pm, feel free to stop in.

Anyway...I had this brilliant idea of making a bunch of CDs for people to take home, and there would be songs from 1967, 1977, 1987, 1997 and 2007 on it, covering, as you see, the span of my life.

Which is where you lot come in. I need help narrowing it down even further, since the CD can really only fit about 3 songs per year. So...poll time!

[Poll #965801]

Oddly enough 1987 was harder than I thought - I was in college radio at the time, and my musical tastes tended toward the more obscure songs, not the top 40 things. and 1997 was all rap and hip-hop it seemed. As I was becoming a mother that year, it wasn't really on my list of things to pay attention to! And I've absolutely no idea about what's popular now.

So, thanks in advance for answering the poll. If you are at all interested, I'd be happy to send you a copy once I get the songs we choose.

This is such a great idea; I'd love a copy!

I just went to the Billboard current Top 10 list for this week to list some--I actually have no idea who any of these people sound.

I tried to vote for ones that I thought were most representative of the time and also party songs. I dind't know any of the ones you named from 1997 except "Candle in the Wind," so I looked up the biggest hist from that year and I didn't know A SINGLE ONE.

How abou Alternative Rock for 1997? Because apparently popular music was completely fucking dead.

There are supposed to be a LOT of reunion tours this year. If I can find out what they are I'll let you know, to see if you want to do different versions.
