Here's the thing about Doctor Who. They can't seem to go a whole series without making me cry at least once. I cried like a complete moron at Father's Day, in series one, just for starters, and the 2nd series made me cry practically every other episode. And now, just three episodes in and I'm tearing up during a hymn. And the death of the Face of Bo. Crying over a big head. Sheesh. And the Doctor finally telling Martha the whole truth was heartbreaking.
What is wrong with me?
I do have to say so far I think series 3 is the best of the lot. It's a close run thing, but I am just really loving this series. I like Martha, and I like how Rose isn't forgotten - she was too well beloved both of the doctor and of the fans to just pretend like she didn't exist. I thought Gridlock was fantastic. Excellent story, lots of humour, kittens. You can't go wrong.
Oh, I've re-started working on my story I tried to do for Nanowrimo. I think I got over the block I had about it. I made a couple of changes, mostly to make the 'mystery story' less confusing, and I think I'm going to be able to move forward. I really like my character, Carys, and I want to give her a whole story. I like her because she's American, but her Dad is Welsh, and she spent much of her life in the UK, so I can throw in lots of my Anglophlia.
Here's a question though, for you across the pond. I want to give her a good, Welsh surname, and naturally the only one I can think of is Jones. Anyone have a good, solid name I can borrow?
And I also wanted to have her UK relatives not live in Wales. I had them in Newcastle, for no particular reason except it is a place I want to go, but I'm wondering if I should change it. The relatives are an Aunt and Uncle and a grandmother, and they don't play any part in the story, but it where she'd have spent her holidays, brushing up on her English slang and such. The way I had it in my head is the Aunt and Uncle moved from Wales for work, and when the grandmother got older she moved to live nearer them. Would Newcastle be a logical place or should I try somewhere more South? Bristol maybe? Or maybe I should just have them living in Hyde.
