Can anyone think of good songs that have to do with someone loving someone who doesn't love them back?

I thought it would be fun to have these songs playing before our show since unrequited (and obesssive)love is the general theme of All's Well that Ends Well.

Naturally, having come up with this idea, I can't think of any good songs.

So, suggestions anyone?

"And So It Goes" by Billy Joel

"Jesse's Girl" by Rick Springfield

"My Best Friend's Girl" by the Cars

"Every Breath You Take" by the Police

"Tango de Roxanne" from the Moulin Rouge soundtrack, that one may not count though.

If you want to include "you used to love me, I still love you" songs I could come up with a few more.

"On My Own" from Les Mis

"I'm Not That Girl" from Wicked

Gosh, now I'm having a tough time thinking of all the songs my angsty teenage self loved (or would have loved)!

Long Long Time by Linda Ronstadt. I immediately thought of it as one of my favorite unrequited love songs ever.

But I don't own it. Hmmm, I think I may go see if it's on iTunes ...

The classic: "I Can't Make You Love Me" by Bonnie Rait. Everyone will recognize it.

I'd say "Romeo and Juliet" by Dire Straits.

And just about anything by Elvis Costello.

I love that you love Hanson. I forget how young you are sometimes, and it makes me smile that you were one of 'those kids' who liked them. :)

I was 14 in 1997, the year that MMMBop was released. I had (have!) the biggest crush on Taylor Hanson. "Liked" them? Nah. I like them. Hanson is still around, you know. They have a new album set to be released at the end of this month. I'm so excited!!!

I'd never heard of him (once again cursing the fact I was born here, in America. Sigh) and now I love him.

That is a perfect song. Plus the video is even right. :)

I'd never seen the video until I went to find the link! I'm so happy it fits, I don't hear this song any more so I'm not surprised if it has passed people by.

I can't find this song anywhere for download. You don't happen to have it as an MP3, do you?

I don't know if this is what you need, but there's a beautiful song by the Smiths called Back to the Old House. It's on the albums Hatful of Hollow and Louder than Bombs. The pertinent lyrics are: "And you never knew/How much I really liked you/Because I never really told you/Oh, and I meant to..."

Give it a listen. There's also several traditional folk songs that have that theme. Check out some of Steeleye Span's recordings. There's one about a sailor, I think it's Black-Eyed Sailor, in which the sailor courts her but then rejects her and won't marry her, after he's had her. There are several like that, mostly where men are rejected by women. Oh, and another one comes to mind, Jethro Tull's "Cap in Hand" from their album Songs in the Wood.

Hope this helps!
