Anyone remember the bit in the movie Wayne's World where Wayne and Garth bow down to Alice Cooper saying 'We're not worthy! We're not worthy!' Was very tempted to do that on more than one occasion last night during the hour Terry Pratchett spoke.

He speaks just like he writes. He is so interesting and amusing. His voice was a bit scratchy having been as he said in too many rooms with air-conditioning and speaking too much. He said when he wakes in the morning he sounds like "Jack Sparrow". People laughed and he said, in a dead-on impression, "I didn't deserve that." Which of course made people laugh and applaud and he said "I did deserve that."

I didn't get a chance to ask a question during the Q&A session, but when it was my turn for the book signing I asked if I could ask the question I wanted to ask and he said yes. So I asked him if the soldier's song in Nightwatch was a real song. Short answer, yes, at least his version of a real song. He talked to me about it for several minutes. I was very happy.

He signed everything brought to him but would only 'dedicate' one, in the interest of time, so in my "Johnny and the Dead" book it says "To Carol, Not dead? Good!" and in my falling apart copy of Reaper Man it just has his "loop and squiggle". I cheated a bit, my friend came with me, and isn't a rabid fan as the rest of the assembled people were, so she held my copy of The Unadultrated Cat, and got that dedicated to "Carol" when it was her turn. In that it says "To Carol, a real cat person".

He also mentioned he is working on a new Vimes book, as well as a new Tiffany Aching book.

Finally, I posted a brief account on [community profile] discworld if anyone wants to see what I said there.

In other news, I had a job interview today. Hopefully it went well, because I really don't think the job I'm in is going to last much longer. At this point I don't even care. I'd rather be on unemployment for a little while then deal with feeling tense every day, wondering if I was going to get fired any minute. That's why I took today off. I need a break from the tense.

Color me jealous. The City Watch books are my favorites, so next book I might just have to go to a signing, regardless of my distance from. So very, very, cool.
