Back in high school, as I may have mentioned before, there was this tradition every Christmas and Valentine's Day where people would send candy canes or flowers to a friend's homeroom with a note attached. The rest of the day was spent smugly carrying around these little treats so one could show off how many one got. Just another little self-esteem challenge for teenagers to face. I fortunately had enough friends that we all made a pretty good showing.

I've decided that comments on one's journal is a bit like that. I can't help but feel a bit let down when I don't get any comments on something I've posted, even if, logically, I realise what I posted doesn't really warrent a comment. I still can't help but think that nobody likes me.

Funny how those kinds of things never really leave you. All part of the inner child, I suppose.

That being said, I still don't really have anything important enough to say that would merit a discussion here. I suppose we could talk about how Bush vetoes expansion of kids' health insurance but really, what is there to say? I've given up being surprised at anything that man does any more.

Oh, today at work one of the Big Boss Guys was talking to some of the women in the accounting/corporate department, and I missed the first part of the conversation, but he was saying something about how, just because they know who the president is doesn't mean he should have to know who the Prime Minister was so, weirdly, I went over there, said "Gordon Brown" and left again. Not sure if that was a good career move or not. What do you think?

I know what you mean. Then again, when's the last time you commented on my journal? ;)

Good point, actually. :)

Must rectify...

I'd love to hear some of your comments on what I post. :) Unless, I drive you crazy with all my Terry worship. LOL

A lot of my problem is my home computer is really slow, and when I go into someone's journal it takes forever, and then tends to crash, so sometimes I think "Oh, I'll go back after I read all the other posts" and then I never do!

I haven't been watching Lost, so I don't know how much I have to say, but I was pleased for Terry. I hope after Lost is over he gets his own starring role in another show. Or at least guests on House!

How come you don't watch LOST anymor?

I watched House for the first time a few weeks ago. It's really good. Unfortunately, I can't watch on a regular basis.

You should check out http://terryoquinn.org/. A friend and I are setting it up.

I just lost interest last season. They were spread too far apart, and the whole 'rogue psychologist' thing really annoyed me. I mean, if whassaname really needed Jack to do the operation, instead of terrorising the people, why didn't they greet them with open arms and cheesburgers? Then there was that big break, and then I missed an episode, and kept thinking I'd catch up, but I just stopped caring.

I also started watching Heroes, and I think I can only watch one complicated show at a time - I get confused. :)

I know what you mean about them not just talking to the survivors. Any chance you might rent the DVDs when they come out? S4 will be done all 16 eps in a row, without any breaks, when they start back up.

I've started to watch Hereos. Unfortunately, I haven't seen all of S1.

Would have used my Hiro icon, but stupid LJ logged me out again. GRRRRRRRRRR!

My high school did that too. I don't think I ever got anything, but I don't really remember caring that much about it.

Your Big Boss Guy seems to personify the American public in a nutshell. "You should know about me, but why the heck should I care about you?"

Back to the grind, now.

I think everyone feels that way about comments--even if you know it's irrational, it feels like you've been rejected when nobody comments (or when nobody replies to your comment, even).

I totally understand. I get no comments to most entries, or the comment has nothing to do with my entry. I try to comment! But yeah. Sorry.

Intellectual dive-bombing is always entertaining, but not knowing this guy, I have no idea how he'd take that. He does sound a bit defensive about his lack of knowledge of world-affairs so he might not like it, or then again he might not have even noticed who said it, did he look at you before you kept walking?

Comment comment comment!

We had those things in high school, too, and I only ever got one in grade 12.

I will admit that I am disappointed if I have a run of entries and no one comments, but most of the time it doesn't really bother me. I know people are reading.

he was saying something about how, just because they know who the president is doesn't mean he should have to know who the Prime Minister was

A minor plot point, but did he actually say Prime Minister of Great Britain? Others among us have them too, you know. Although ours is a stuffy conservative who looks like a Lego man, so probably not super memorable anyway. ;)

Yeah, it was of Britain. I was feeling smug because I actually knew. I don't have a clue who the PM of Canada is, which is very American of me.

I keep meaning to tell you - you were totally in my dream the other night. I dreamt I was visiting you, and I went with you to Harvard to get your married name on your ID.

Weird, huh.

Haha, if someone asked me who the Prime Minister was I'd have to take a second because it's taking me a while to get used to not thinking of Tony Blair. It was a long time, ok?

To quote Mean Girls,

"Four for you, Glen Coco! You go, Glen Coco!...and none for Gretchen Wieners."

(Same deal, giving out flowers...it's a torturous routine in almost every high school.)

Yeah, i get that way too.. Then again, I disappeared for AGES, sO I dont blame anyone for not always reading. I try to comment, but on my machine, sometimes LJ freezes.

Glad you know the PM's name. I knew of Blair, but I didnt know the new guys name... I suck.

I always read - although these days I don't do a daily check anymore. So I'm a lousy lj-friend.
