Shouting into the void

Back in high school, as I may have mentioned before, there was this tradition every Christmas and Valentine's Day where people would send candy canes or flowers to a friend's homeroom with a note attached. The rest of the day was spent smugly carrying around these little treats so one could show off how many one got. Just another little self-esteem challenge for teenagers to face. I fortunately had enough friends that we all made a pretty good showing.
I've decided that comments on one's journal is a bit like that. I can't help but feel a bit let down when I don't get any comments on something I've posted, even if, logically, I realise what I posted doesn't really warrent a comment. I still can't help but think that nobody likes me.
Funny how those kinds of things never really leave you. All part of the inner child, I suppose.
That being said, I still don't really have anything important enough to say that would merit a discussion here. I suppose we could talk about how Bush vetoes expansion of kids' health insurance but really, what is there to say? I've given up being surprised at anything that man does any more.
Oh, today at work one of the Big Boss Guys was talking to some of the women in the accounting/corporate department, and I missed the first part of the conversation, but he was saying something about how, just because they know who the president is doesn't mean he should have to know who the Prime Minister was so, weirdly, I went over there, said "Gordon Brown" and left again. Not sure if that was a good career move or not. What do you think?

on 2007-10-03 07:32 pm (UTC)I haven't been watching Lost, so I don't know how much I have to say, but I was pleased for Terry. I hope after Lost is over he gets his own starring role in another show. Or at least guests on House!

on 2007-10-03 07:36 pm (UTC)I watched House for the first time a few weeks ago. It's really good. Unfortunately, I can't watch on a regular basis.
You should check out http://terryoquinn.org/. A friend and I are setting it up.

on 2007-10-03 05:06 pm (UTC)Your Big Boss Guy seems to personify the American public in a nutshell. "You should know about me, but why the heck should I care about you?"
Back to the grind, now.

on 2007-10-03 06:42 pm (UTC)We had those things in high school, too, and I only ever got one in grade 12.
I will admit that I am disappointed if I have a run of entries and no one comments, but most of the time it doesn't really bother me. I know people are reading.

A minor plot point, but did he actually say Prime Minister of Great Britain? Others among us have them too, you know. Although ours is a stuffy conservative who looks like a Lego man, so probably not super memorable anyway. ;)

(Same deal, giving out flowers...it's a torturous routine in almost every high school.)
