Hey, [livejournal.com profile] sing1118, remember the Adipose you're making for Charlie? The Beeb will be after you! (only not really, I'm sure) I thought the article was amusing, in light of the fact you're actually using the pattern.

If I were that lady, I'd get the Beeb to pay me for the pattern, and if I were the Beeb, I'd get cracking on the Adipose toys, already.

In slightly related news, I started writing a Doctor Who/Ben 10 crossover for Charlie.

Hey, it totally works, really. Ben can turn into aliens, right? And Ben's Grandpa Max worked for a group who were sort of a UNIT/Torchwood hybrid, right? So who's to say Max didn't at one point meet with the Doctor, and who's to say the Doctor might not pick up the Omnitrix activity while passing over the earth?

Right?...Right?

And back in the Real World...I bought a car. A new, 2008 Kia Rio. I got a good deal, and I really needed a new car. My old one was really falling apart. Something was seriously wrong with the engine, the radiator never worked properly, there was no air conditioning, and the tires were all bald. Worst of all it didn't have power steering - it had broken - and I was frankly getting tired of hurting myself every time I had to turn a corner, and being absolutely unable to get out if there was a car parked in front of and behind me on the street without 20 minutes of groaning and cursing.

If I sound defensive, it's because I'm feeling a bit that way. My mother says to me I shouldn't have bought it because I can't afford it. I can, actually; it's not as great as if I didn't have payments, but I NEED a car. I have to get to and from work, and it's nice to know I have something I can rely on. And it has 10 year warranty etc. so if something horrible happens I don't have to pay for it.

I hate the fact I still feel I need to get my mother's approval for things. It's made me feel very depressed all day.

...is it bad that my biggest reaction to that article was IT'S NOT KNITTING, IT'S CROCHETING, DAMMIT! But yeah, there were a whole bunch of posts on [livejournal.com profile] crafty_tardis about this when the BBC first contacted her. I kind of have the whole pattern and will finish it, and if they want to be dicks about that, they can. I'm making it as a gift for Charlie, and I don't intend to make more than that one. Also, I know the BBC is pissy because others were selling them, and that does make sense, but at the same time, they don't sell their own Adipose toy, so they can't get too mad until they do. I think the biggest problem was not that she made it, but that she made the pattern available. Because people on that comm have been posting photos of Adipose they've sewn, not crocheted, and AFAIK they haven't been contacted.

Also: yay car! I think you made a good decision.
