So, I was googling for something work related, and I stumbled across this web site that had pictures of old postcards from Camden county, and one section had old car dealership postcards, the kind they would give out when they moved, or had a sale or something. Sure enough, there was a photo of the dealership my grandfather owned. It's here, if any one wants to see. Garden State Motors

There's a new costume shop just opened up in my little town, and I decided to stop there tonight to get a costume for Sunday. For me. The grown ups are dressing this year! Anyway, I go into the shop, and I'm looking around, and the man behind the counter says, "You look familiar." So I'm thinking maybe its because he saw me in the play I was in last year, and I turn around to say so when he adds, "Were you one of my students?" Turns out it is my high school drama teacher, who I actually knew through junior high because he also taught the "Cherry Hill Recreation Program" that I was in. I couldn't believe he recognized me. I don't think he remembered my name, but he recognized me as a former student, so that's nice.

I proceeded to spend WAY too much money renting a costume, but it is SO pretty. When I asked Charlie what I should be for Halloween, he said "A queen." So I told the nice sales girl that I was looking for a queen type thing, and she brings out two dresses, one of which was a beautiful empire waste deep red velvet thing that looks like Juliet would have worn. I tried it on, and Charlie threw his arms around me and said, "Oh Mommy! You look beautiful!" and who am I to resist that? Besides, I really like the idea of going Juliet. I am going to wear the long wig I have from the play, and it is going to be fun. Expensive, but hey, it's Halloween!

Then we go to the McDonalds, and I bump into this woman who used to baby sit Charlie when he was just a tiny infant. So that was weird, too.

I was trying to think of a fictional scary story that I could make up, but I don't know how good I am at those. I'm wondering...what scares you, really? I personally don't find slasher stories scary so much as gross, I don't like being scared of other people, that hits too close to home. Give me a good old 'footsteps in an empty corridor' kind of story any day. But what about you guys? What scares you?

And finally, I know I should root for the Eagles this Sunday, but it seems poetically just that a team named after an Egar Allan Poem should win on Halloween.

Wasps scare me. But that's no use whatsoever. Room 101 in 1984 scared me as well, but that was because I was imagining giant angry wasps instead of carnivourous rats. Brrrrr.
I was gonna suggest a scary 'someone' type thing, but then I read on, so stuff that. Soz!
'Edgar Allan Poem' - hee hee! That's such a cool way of putting it! Did you come up with that, or does everyone say that and I ought to know it?
Also, I s'pose you know this, with your Brit-obsession and all (lol!), that on Halloween we all tend to dress up as scary things. Juliet's not scary. Unless it's her vengeful spirit hell-bent on justice, killing off Friar Laurence, her parents, Romeo's parents etc... Ooh! There's your story! Heh heh. But anyway I was just wondering if I could dazzle you with some Brit-wit (heh!)... meh.
Your dress sounds gorge, btw!

'Edgar Allan Poem' - as much as I hate to admit it, I was clever without realising it. I wrote that accidentally. :)

I LOVE the idea of Juliet's vengeful spirit. Dead funny. "Juliet's back...and she's Not Happy!" hee.

How was Cambridge?

Cambridge was cool, thanks! The buildings are all so old there - it's such a great place. We actually went into Girton, which was the first ever women's college, but it's mixed now. We walked and walked and walked everywhere, so I was completely knackered by the end. I'd forgotten Barbara and Stephen walk for fun(!).
Unfortunately today I woke up with a thumping headache, and I'm more than willing to blame it on them. Bwahahahaha!

I don't get too scared of slasher stories, myself; I usually have something heavy or sharpish around the house that I could use to hold off a slasher if the story somehow Came True. Some of the supernatural ones get under my skin, though. I mean, Friday the Thirteenth movies? Not scary. Poltergeist? SCARY AS HELL.

On a more mundane note, The Andromeda Strain was one of the scariest books I ever read, and the glowing green bugs episode of X-Files was possibly the freakiest one I can think of, so there's the 'little tiny things that can KEEL YOU DEAD' factor too.

Yeah! I liked Poltergeist. Scary and no one actually died. In the movie anyway. The actors themselves didn't fare quite as well.

Did you see The Others? That was scary just for the suspense factor.

Give me a good ghost story any day. As long as it's daylight, and the lights are on!

I personally much rather suspense then gore. Heh I'm not too found of Gore, either! LOL Um, yeah, okay. lol Anyway, Poltergeist was the first movie that made me scream. And the wasps, you could use those in one of those killer bee type stories. lol

How neat! I love finding bits of the past like that.

H.P. Lovecraft scares me silly. So does the original version of Invasion of the Body Snatchers. And most of Hitchcock, especially some of his shorts.
