Every Halloween, for varying reasons, I have been able to get Charlie a really great costume. Last year, he wanted to be Mario, and lo and behold I found an actual Mario costume at the Village Thrift. My Halloween costume mojo has always been on.

This year, not so much.

It doesn't help that Charlie is long past the age where I can choose for him.

First he wanted to be "Pit" from Nintendo, which is basically a boy angel in a toga. In the end, he couldn't find wings that matched exactly so he gave up the idea, which was good, because it was kinda girly.

I tried to talk him into being The Empty Child, and then Doctor Horrible, but to no avail. Eventually he decided he wants to be a Cyberman.

Awesome idea except I'm not terribly artistic, and finding an actual Cyberman costume (That isn't going to cost an arm and a leg) is pretty much impossible.

I found some grey sweatpants, and I am hoping to find a grey shirt, and hopefully my artistic friend who IS very talented will have the time to help me make it actually look like a Cyberman costume. I did find a thing that showed how to make a Cyberman mask, but it was a bit time-consuming.

I'm stressing about this for some reason. We actually have a Halloween party to go to, which is next Friday, and I'm running out of time.

Why couldn't he just want to be Batman?

Maybe you could get away with what the original Cybermen looked like? They sure looked like the BBC had to get the costumes ready before the Halloween party next Friday.

I love Pit! (from Kid Icarus). He's not girly; he's greek!

Yeah, but I don't know how many kids would know he was Pit and not a girly angel, though!

He actually made up a fan fiction story about Pit and Kirby. It was a slash story. (I don't think he REALISED it was, but there you go.)

I'm having costume issues here too. Jonathan wants to be one of the Scarecrows from FoB and I have no clue how to pull that one off for him O_o

Hmmm...maybe get him a Wizard of Oz Scarecrow costume and then make a mask out of burlap?

That's pretty awesome that's what he wants to be, though.

Also...great icon.

May I suggest the tactical use of duct tape? I once transformed a wool coat into something very space-agey (I was doing a satire of the Japanese designer Issey Miyake's pieces) by covering it with silver duct tape. It has the added benefit of making the fabric stiffer so it would look more robot like. Of course, you'd have to be willing to sacrifice the clothing that you use. And for the head part you could get a metal mixing bowl and put cardboard around the rim of it and use toilet paper rolls for the pipes, maybe. Anyway, just an idea.

I am out of this one for sure as I suck when it comes to halloween costumes if there not scary then forget it, you can ask Mel, if she wanted scary then I was there to help if not forget kid I was lousy at anything sewing or makeing into a costume. I wish you lots of luck and maybe he might just change his mind and be Batman lol!

I've always had such luck in the past, too. This Halloween is just being difficult! :)

I want to be Carrie this year. :-) I'm thinking I'm going to get a pink prom dress (good luck finding that, right? - I actually found a real one for SEVENTY-FIVE CENTS at a thrift store - it was amazing but of course it was too small - but I digress) and pour a bucket full of corn syrup with red food coloring on my head, which is what they did in the movie. I think it's an awesome idea but my mom doesn't like it.... :-) Any suggestions for finding a cheap pink prom dress anywhere? I'm obviously not gonna buy one new, and I think the chances of me finding another great deal are pretty much nil. At this point I'm thinking I'll just have to buy one of those "prom queen" costumes...

Did you look in the Village Thrift store? They have lots of dresses - not sure if they are cheap enough to qualify for a Halloween costume.

I love that idea. Totally funny.

If I see one, I'll let you know.
