You know, this kind of makes me want to cry: Woohoo
Woohoo

Debbie just hit the wall
She never had it all
One Prozac a day
Husbands a CPA
Her dreams went out the door
When she turned twenty four
Only been with one man
What happen to her plan?

She was gonna be an actress
She was gonna be a star
She was gonna shake her ass
On the hood of white snake’s car
Her yellow SUV is now the enemy
Looks at her average life
And nothing has been alright

Springstein, Madonna
Way before Nirvana
There was U2 and Blondie
And music still on MTV
Her two kids in high school
They tell her that she’s uncool
But she still preoccupied
With 19, 19, 1985

Woohoo
(1985)
Woohoo

She's seen all the classics
She knows every line
Breakfast Club, Pretty in Pink
Even Saint Elmo's Fire
She rocked out to wham
Not a big Limp Biscuit fan
Thought she’d get a hand
On a member of Duran Duran

Where’s the mini-skirt made of snake skin
And who’s the other guy singing in Van Halen
When did reality become T.V.
What ever happen to sitcoms, game shows
(on the radio there was)

Springstein, Madonna
Way before Nirvana
There was U2 and Blondie
And music still on MTV
Her two kids in high school
They tell her that she’s uncool
But she still preoccupied
With 19, 19, 1985

Woohoo

She hates time make it stop
When did Motley Crew become classic rock?
And when did Ozzy become an actor?
Please make this stop
Stop!
And bring back

Springstein, Madonna
Way before Nirvana
There was U2 and Blondie
And music still on MTV
Her two kids in high school
They tell her that she’s uncool
But she still preoccupied
With 1985

I remember when music was still on MTV. I remember the weekend everyone in school discovered MTV. I remember the names of all the original VJs. I remember when they didn't have enough videos to fill the day and had these weird cartoon fillers. I remember when they actually put thought into the making of a video, and sometimes even had entire plot lines. I remember getting tears in my eyes at a video by AISA. (Little girl drowns in the river. Don't ask me why) I remember wanting one of those see-through bra things the singer from Missing Persons was wearing. (also wanted a body to go with it, but that's another story.) I remember dressing like Pat Benatar and wishing I could meet Debbie Harry. I remember thinking Adam Ant was the cutest guy in the universe. I remember wanting to wear face paint and roll around on the beach like the Duran Duran video. I remember Quarterflash.

Woo hoo, indeed.

I was a kid in the 80s (as I was born in 1976), but I recall a lot of those bands and trends and such.

I just remember a different world. I miss it a lot.

And I used to dress like an 8-year-old Debbie Gibson, complete with fedora.

Holy crap, if people who were coming of age in 1985 are having kids now and graduating to officially uncool, I am so fucked.

why this bands name seems so familiar?

Hehe actually I guess this was written when Gary Cherone was the singer for VH (he's from Extreme). <- I know that and yet I was born in 1981 and didn't see mtv until 1994 (right after Cobain died already) and you know what? Back in 94 there was still music on MTV. Even 'old' music. No way can I see a Duran Duran video now - not even their new one (check VH1 for that) - actually I bet I can't even see a song from two years ago (except the 90s show).

In fact, while I'm at it let's complain about the whole 'everything is so much trashier now'. But you know what? It has all happened before. Through all this century parents thought their kids were 'way off' and 'undisciplined rebels'. In fact I even think that about the 'new youth' - as if I'm not the 'youth' myself - but the point is that everything changes. Not always for the better or the more interesting of ways, but change has become somewhat of a independence and uniqueness indication, so much that it's almost funny to see the 'youth' now thinking they are so original in being 'punk' while listening to Avril, for example. We, the old people, look at them and think 'now back in my days, well *we* were punks and rebels - this is all commercialized crap'. But if you think about it - we were all following a trend in a way. Back from the early communist movements in Europe in the beginning of the century, through hippies, the 70s, and also the 80s (big hair, larger then life makeup) and the 90s (grunge and the clubbing scene).

I love the 80s in retrospect - I can't really recall much about living in them (and surely my memories wouldn't be something you could identify with - maybe except the 'lambada') - but the funny thing is life moves on. So much that I had heard the 'macarena' on one of the 'great old songs' shows on the radio. Unbelievable, right?

I miss that. I can't even stand to watch ANY music videos anymore. Nothing but a buncha silicone-filled girls and bad lighting.
