This TV Tropes page brought up a memory that I haven't thought of in awhile.

When I was very little I remember going to some sort of Disney Ice Capade type show. I don't remember much about it, but one sequence absolutely terrified me.

Goofy was being chased by a Volkwagon bug, and the hood (bonnet) of the car would open and close, revealing teeth. At the end Goofy gets eaten by the car!

It was supposed to be funny, I guess, but it terrified me. It's funny how things like that stick in your mind.

I was a kid in the early 70's, too, and 'psychodelic' was all the rage, so some of the cartoons I was subjected to where also unintentionally horrifying. To this day I'm not overly fond of surrealism because of it.

What about you? Any weird unwhitting traumas in your memory?

The other day, Steven and I were watching The Dark Crystal. I remember that movie scaring the crap out of me when I was a little kid. There's a scene very early on of the Emperor Skeksis dying and then disintegrating, beak first. I still find that High Octane Nightmare Fuel. Bleargh.

I concur. Dark Crystal scared me nigh to death as a kid.

This is an odd reversal of what you're asking, but I recently saw the following "Sesame Street" clip, for the first time in forever. I strongly remember seeing it as a kid, and at the time, didn't think twice about it, kind of even liked it. But now, seeing it as an adult, it creeps me out, gives me chills, both the song and the animation, and I can't explain why:

This is a PRIME example of what I meant by the psychedelic 70's. I remember this, too.

There's another one where a kid gets lost or something, and meets more and more bizzare creatures as he goes along. That was scary, too.

Since we're specifically referring to Disney, I want to mention Fantasia's Night on Bald Mountain

Definite Nightmare fuel.

At Disney World- the Snow White ride. It's mentioned on the TV Tropes page, a lot of kids were frightened by it.
