One of my high school acquaintances just put an 'anti-mosque' rant on her FB, and it just makes me aggravated. Well, actually, in her defense, she says she thinks it would just be a target for anti-Muslim feelings and maybe they should just go somewhere else to be safe, but it still kind of comes from the same place as the idiots who hear 'mosque' and that's it.

It frustrates me no end, because I don't understand why otherwise intelligent people insist on seeing everything in binary terms. People who were Muslim bombed the Trade Center, therefore all Muslims are evil.

Do they not see that by building an Islamic center (Not just a Mosque, mind you, a center) it is saying to the world that we do not hate. That we say to those who seek to demonize us that we are not the intolerant, evil, godless villains of the piece, and that we wish to see past our differences in order to reach peace and understanding.

But no. These people want to have their black hats and white hats and to tar all people with the same brush, at the same time decrying the terrorists who are doing the same the same think.

Rant over.

My coworkers were listening to Rush Limbaugh on this topic and I wanted to cut someone. People who say that all Muslims are evil are just... the worst kind of person. Ever. People do evil things no matter what religion they are! I think the mosque is a good idea; it shows that we can get beyond our bigotry, and that we're not closed-minded. ughh.

I totally agree with you. Someone said recently, that us condemning all Muslims because of the few fanatics, is like if we were to say all Baptists are horrible because of what the Westboro Baptist group does.

I want to "like" this, but it's not on Facebook.

Still: LIKE LIKE LIKE.

I haven't noticed anyone suggesting that all Roman Catholic churches in Oklahoma City be closed because Timothy McVeigh was once a Roman Catholic.

Why the hell are people being so STUPID about this?

Oh, I dunno. I can see the argument's soundness. After all, the catholics had the crusades, the inquisition, AND priests who don't know how to stop touching little children, and I think catholics are evil.

Right?

This is the problem with Facebook, at least for me: I have "friends" who aren't really friends, just people I knew at some point in my life. Steven's solution is to argue endlessly with someone on Facebook until they de-friend him or admit defeat. My technique is to just hide them from my newsfeed. :)

I honestly don't understand all this opposition to building a Muslim center on ground zero. I think it'd be a great gesture towards demonstrating that the US is inclusive and that we don't paint all Muslims with the same brush. I guess the problem is that many Americans do. :/

I don't think they should build it because they're gonna get firebombed. Then one or more of them will feel the need to retaliate by attacking some other religious structure. And so on. And so on.

That's pretty much what my FB friend was saying. But it doesn't help that the Sarah Palins of the world are acting like it is such a horrible thing to do. It feeds the flames.

Yeah, it does.

Also, it's two blocks away. In Manhattan, that's not so close.

And this is why my "friends list" on FB is only a tad over 80 people. I don't seem to accumulate people the way most everyone else does on that place. Because I wanna actually give a damn about everyone I "friend" or who "friends" me.

*sigh*... I dunno. Maybe I just have a short fuse for myopia.
