LJGATE 2010

I agree that the cross-posting thing is stupid. That said, if someone has the need to cross post their entries on their LJ to their Twitter or Facebook account, then I guess it's nice that they can.
I choose not to do that. FB is not the same as LJ for me.
The option that they included where one can post a comment one makes on someone else's entry is just illogical. Why would someone want to do that?
If, for example, one of my friends posts something about, oh, let's say a book she read, and I post 'oh, I read that, It was silly' - that's me having a discussion with that friend. Why on earth would I want my FB people to see a post from me that says 'oh, I read that, it was silly'? It wouldn't make sense to the FB friends, because they're not part of that conversation, and it's not like I ever say anything so earth shattering that I will feel the need to spread it to every Social Networking Site in the universe.
And...this is the important bit - cross-posting a comment is a choice. It does not happen automatically. Only if the commenter wants to, will the comment be cross-posted, and judging by everyone's reactions, that's never going to happen; at least not amongst my LJ friends.
So...LJ did something stupid, yes, because of this need to keep up with trends (I told someone recently that I had an LJ and got a reaction that was along the lines of 'oh, that's so Ninties'), and it's dumb, and hopefully they will listen and at least lose the cross-posting comments option but it's just that, an option.
In conclusion, I'm not too fussed, because I know you guys won't cross post my lj to your FB or Twitter without my permission, and I know you know that I will offer you the same courtesy. Because you all are awesome like that.
PS - Appropriate Icon is Appropriate, Y/Y?

on 2010-09-03 02:39 pm (UTC)It's reassuring that only you can cross-post your own entries and your own comments. But it's frightening that your LJ friends can cross-post their comments to your entries. The point that I'm stuck on is whether this feature is automatic or not. Do you know?
