So, I'm still watching P&P (I watch it whenever I get a spare moment) and was thinking about this one theory that has been sometimes put forth about Elizabeth's friend Charlotte - that she was gay.
Oh yeah. One could totally write a slash story about Elizabeth and Charlotte. Well, more of a unrequited feeling on Charlotte's side, I think. She marries Mr Collins because it was a good match and it beats being the spinster of the parish. This way she gets respectability and eventually a child, but she'd long ago given up on the idea of having love. Because she's in love with Elizabeth.
Well why not? It could work. I'm not sure I could do justice to the idea, but I had a plot bunny that Charlotte knows that she and her husband were both imagining they were really with Elizabeth on their wedding night.
P&P lends itself well to fan fiction, I think, because there are so many peripheral characters in the story that you just wish you knew what happened to them after the main story ended. Like Colonel Fitzwilliam - Darcy's cousin, nice but poor second son on an Earl. And Lady Cathrine's daughter Anne. And Mary. I hope that somewhere in Jane Austin's imagination Mary found eventual happiness.
