charliesmumI'm going to be gone all weekend starting tomorrow, though, so I need to get it in while I can.
I think JKR reads more fan fiction than she'll admit to, because I think there are a few moments in the book that are her subtle way of trying to tell the fangirls to stop doing certain things.
Item the first: Harry gets docked points from Snape when he arrives late to school for still being in muggle clothes. So take that all you 'she wore a short black skirt and tube top to breakfast' suethors.
Item the second: Romilda Vane. I know we've already established her as a shout out to the Dan fangirls, but I think the whole 'Ron ate the love potion' scene is a jab at all the 'oh she's so beautiful I'm in lurve' fics we've seen.
Item the third: Hermione mentions how all the time turners were broken during the Ministry raid. All of them. So there is no way Harry, Ron, Hermione or anyone will be able to go back in time and meet their parents/Become Dumbledore/marry Sirius. I know JKR heard about and put to rest the 'pawn to king' theory, and I think this was her way of making sure people got the message.
Item the forth: Snape's house is firmly established as not a manor.
Item the fifth: Voldemort never liked anyone, ever. Not even when he was young and handsome. This is extremely well established.
Item the sixth: Sirius is childless. So was his brother. So is Bellatrix. No Sirius daughters, thank you.
