Oompa Loompa Ompade do

Just finished watching Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. My Charlie is currently down stairs doing the 'oompa loompa' dance thingy that is on the features. It is extremely cute. Just saying.
I must say I liked this a lot better than I thought I would. Although I still love Gene Wilder's gentle eccentricity, I enjoyed Johnny Depp's interpretation. I was a bit concerned when they said he was doing a sort of Michael Jackson imitation, but it wasn't quite as bad as I thought it might be. And it was really quite amusing. That man is a flawless actor.
The only thing I really missed was the psychedelic boat ride from the original movie with the eerie song Gene Wilder sang. I mean WTF? A chicken getting its head cut off? That was just weird.
The most disturbing part of this movie was the squirrels; Charlie climbed onto my lap at that point, even though he'd already seen the movie when it was in the theatre, because it scared him. The idea of a child, even one as horrible as Verruca, getting sent down a garbage shoot in an incinerator by evil squirrels is kind of creepy. But they all come out sadder and wiser, I suppose.
I really want chocolate now.
