So here's a really, really, really rough start for my brilliant TV show:

Characters:
Family:
Eddie Wyatt – Owner of the store, ex-bass player in a famous 80’s rock band.
Denver Wyatt – Eddie’s college age son, extremely musical but wants to be an astronomer
Melinda Wyatt – Eddie’s 16 year old daughter, wants to be a singer, father doesn’t want her to.
Jennifer Wyatt – Edddie’s third and final wife, successful children’s author

Store Employees:
Margaret Mason – Older woman, classically trained, despairs at the modern world’s music
Mark Burke– 20 something wannabe rock star
Terrance Anderson – Middle-aged man who wanted to be a rock star but never quite made it. Still thinks that it could happen ‘someday’
Billy Wilder – Co-Owner of the story, old friend of Eddie’s, recovering addict

Students:

Joe Wyman – middle aged detective, finally fulfilling life-long dream of learning trumpet
Stephen – high functioning Autistic boy, a favorite of Margaret’s
Various others

Recurring characters

Victor – Lead singer in Eddie’s band, quit the band and went on to solo fame, and Eddie is still bitter about it.
Courtney Cole – Denver’s mother, very flighty, comes to visit when she is feeling maternal
Amber Bright Wyatt – Eddie’s daughter from his first marriage – successful Real Estate broker, late 20’s, visits sometimes
Martin “Mac” Macavoy, Eddie’s agent

SCENE: Music shop, mid-afternoon. Denver is playing guitar with a Astronomy book on the music stand, Billy Wilder is behind the counter ringing up a customer.

Melinda comes running in to the store, a backpack over her shoulder.

MELINDA: (to Billy) Is Dad here?

BILLY: No, he’s meeting with the accountant, why?

DENVER: Melinda, aren’t you supposed to be in school?

MELINDA: So now you’re my mother?

DENVER: I’m just saying it’s only 2 o’clock…

MELINDA: It’s a free period, okay? Anyway, I have to tell you guys something important. (She takes a deep breath) Victor’s coming to town.

Billy and Denver both react with dread

BILLY: Victor? Are you sure?

MELINDA: It’s all over the internet, duh. Besides my friend Amy couldn’t shut up about it. He’s like her favorite singer ever. It’s very annoying. He’s coming to town on Saturday for some benefit concert. Rainforest or whales or something. Dad is going to freak out.

DENVER: I don’t suppose there’s any hope of keeping this from him, is there?

Eddy slams open the front door and strides across the room to his office

EDDY: Bloody, bloody Victory and his bloody benefit bloody concert. (door slams behind him)

MELINDA: I think that’s a no.

DENVER: I just don’t understand why he’s still holding a grudge, I mean (BAND NAME) broke up twenty-five years ago, and it’s not like he didn’t have a decent career after that…

BILLY: Yeah, but doing musical scores for Hollywood movies isn’t exactly the record-breaking solo career Victor had. Besides Victor left when the band was at the top of their game, and Eddy always felt ripped off about that.

MELINDA: Poor Daddy. Maybe I should go talk to him.

DENVER: No, you should go back to school, you know he’ll flip out if he thinks you’re cutting again.

MELINDA: (looks like she wants to argue, but gives in) Fine. You take care of him. Read him his horoscope or something, that’s your major, right?

DENVER: (Annoyed) Astronomy, not Astrology.

MELINDA: (giggles) God, you are so easy. Good luck you guys, I’ll be back as soon as I can. (exits)

BILLY: Let it go. Right now we have to figure out how to calm your Dad down.

DENVER: I wish I knew what to say to him.

BILLY: Well, in the old days I'd use Vodka to mellow him out. Now I'll probably just have to listen to him complain about the last twenty-five years for the next four hours.
