Where's the ark?

It's raining like mad here. Solid sheets of water falling from the sky. Must be part of Ernesto or something.
I am, for some reason, awake. My back is hurting, don't know why, and I can't seem to fall back to sleep. I think I read too much today, if such a thing is possible.
Charlie came into the room not too long ago and whispered that he thinks he had a bad dream. Probably the rain woke him.
So, what did I read today, I hear you asking? Well, I finished this book my friend leant me called Odd Thomas by Deen Koontz. I'm not normally a big fan of Koontz, but she assured me this was 'different' than most of his books. It was pretty good. Briefly, it's about a guy who lives in a small California town who can see dead people and has just 24 hours to stop some madman from murdering lots of people. It's written memoir style, and was very interesting.
Then I read 'Namesake', this month's book club book. It is about a first generation Indian-American (is that right? I've no idea) dealing with the whole straddling of two worlds thing. His parents had named him Gogol, after the father's favorite Russian writer. It was supposed to be his 'pet name', not his good name, but in the US, at least at the time, they couldn't leave the hospital without filling out the birth certificate, and they were waiting for a letter from the mother's grandmother in India that had name choices. The letter never came, and the grandmother dies, and through a series of events he gets stuck with a name that isn't American or Indian, that's a metaphor for finding himself, or something, I don't know. It was a good book, easy read, very lyrical and nice.
Oh, quick thing. Charlie tried a new food today. My husband was cooking Salmon we've had in our freezer, salmon caught by my father-in-law in Alaska. I told Charlie about it, and mentioned he'd probably like it, if he gave it a try, and to my surprise, his curiousity was aroused enough to actually try it.
"Mommy!" he shouted after taking the first bite. "I like salmon!" He had several helpings.
Right. Think I may go try this sleep thing again. I hear it is all the rage these days.
