Firstly, a very happy birthday to [livejournal.com profile] october31st!

You know on the 'Dayquil' commercials they say that it helps you stay alert to get you through your day? Well, it's a big fat lie. Sure, I can breathe a bit and all, but I feel like I'm looking at the world though a veil or something. Doesn't help I took the Niquil which knocked me right out until 3am, when I was wide awake. I'm glad I took today off, at least I had a few hours of lazing on my comfy chair and watching haunted house stuff on the Discovery Channel.

In good news, I was quoted twice on ljdq, the weekly quiz thing. Go me.

Gearing up for the Trick-or-Treating thing. In my town it is scheduled from 2-6; at least that's when the stores in town are giving out candy. This upset some people I know, since they are not home. This is why I take the day off.

Charlie is so excited that his baby sitter is going to come watch his parade. He even wrote a note to give to his teacher that says "Kate is coming to see the parade". I called her to let her know, and make sure she can still come, because that would be sad, else.

Hope everyone has a nice Halloween!

I made cookies for Charlie's school party tomorrow, and I thought I'd share.

Here they are:
Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Probably the easiest cookie to make - take a bunch of Keebler Fudge Stripe cookies, and turn them over so the stripe part is at the bottom.

Then get a bag of Hershey Kisses. Unwrap a bunch of the kisses, then place them over the hole on the cookie.

Then get a red icing tube thingy, (remembering that you have to buy a tip seperately, because I totally forgot that last year) and 'glue' the kiss to the cookie as see in the photo.

And totally bake-free cookies. And everyone likes them. And they look cool.

I meant to mention yesterday that there was this little girl at the party who I think really thought I was Snow White. She kept staring at me with these big eyes, and called me Snow White, and hugged me a lot. It was so sweet. Made my day.

Am going to try to nap now. Have a cold. Tragic, no?

Mya Lorraine , 8 pounds 6 ounces, was born at 2:30am Oct 29th after a mere 6 hours of labor. Downside of the quick labor was they didn't have time to do the epidural. So...ouch. However, Mother and Baby are doing fine, and the entire family is over the moon.

She was a bit early, and one of the things my sister and her husband were going to do this weekend was buy a digital camera, so...no photos yet. My mother took loads, but didn't bring her thingy to download the pictures to the computer. Sigh.

In the meanwhile, we just got back from a halloween/birthday party, so here's some nice photos of Charlie, Me, Devon and Jennifer.

Charlie's school had a little festival tonight - food, games, face painting. It was held in the school's miniscule 'all purpose room' and when I say it was noisy that doesn't even begin to cover the audio assult that was this party. That kind of chaotic noise is not good for Charlie, it sort of short-circuts his head. He held his own though, even if he did start pulling his 'Human Torch' hat over his head. He and his friend Devon were the only ones in costume, though, which I thought was odd. What's the point of a Halloween party if you don't wear costumes. Okay, candy is a point, but still..

While Charlie was in line for one of this games this cute little girl with long brown hair smiled at Charlie and said 'hello, Charlie,' in a tone of voice that, were she a few years older, I would consider a bit flirty.

I can't take a decent night photo with my digital camera because it takes forever to do a flash photo, and I shake too much and can't seem to keep the camera still. So, this is the best I could do.

For those of you who work in a corporate environment, you are no doubt aware of the annual business holiday cards that companies send to each other every year. Generic 'seasons greetings' for the most part, so as not to offend anyone, with the occasional secular type thing tossed in.

This is the time of year when companies start ordering their holiday cards, and many greeting card printers will try to encourage a company to get theirs done and out the door by Thanksgiving, so your company won't be lost in the avalanche of company holiday cards.

Well, In what, to me, is the most brilliant marketing move ever, today we received a corporate Halloween card.

Talk about beating the rush. And one can avoid all the worrying about religious motifs.

Not only that, the cover of this card looks like it was created by Van Gogh on a really bad day. Suitably creepy and evocative.

see? )

The inside of the card treats us to a brief history of Halloween, as well:

The dubious origins of All Hallow's Eve )

At any rate, this amused me greatly, and wanted to share.

When we were doing the 'Scary People Ride'(as Charlie called it) the second time, we were passed by several teenaged 'Goths' in their black clothes and dog collar chokers, and my niece, mistaking them for part of the attraction, said 'boo' at them.

Well, I thought it was funny.

ETA: I'd like to make this photo into a Happy Halloween icon, but when I did it on the adobe photoshop thingy we have here, the picture was all blurry and not good. Can anyone help me? *looks meaningfully at [livejournal.com profile] purplemer because she is really good at this sort of thing*

Yesterday morning we got a call from my husband's brother, Joel, asking if we wanted to go with them (them being his wife, Nikki and their 9-year old daughter Julie, who by the way is also Autistic) to Dorney Park's Halloweekend Naturally we said yes.

My mother gave this to Charlie yesterday, although to be completely honest, I think I like it more. I love Halloween, and if I had the means, would probably cover my house in cool Halloween decorations, so this is really swell. Haunted House )

In other Halloween news, I would like to take Charlie to this exhibit, but I'm not sure he's ready for it. It is totally cool, though. They do have a 'g' rated version for kids in 2nd grade and younger, so I may try that.

My friend is leaving on a business trip today for 3 weeks, so I need to go see her today to, and the big yellow thing is back in the sky so I'd also maybe like to do something outdoorsy, so I'm not sure what I will do today.

I wanted to take Charlie to the Pop Shop in his PJs since if you do that on Saturdays, he would get a free breakfast, but Charlie is too compartmentalized, he doesn't want to go outside in his PJs.

Hope everyone has a great day. Enjoy the r-emergence of the big yellow thing in the sky, if you can.

Forgot to mention yesterday that Target had a range of costumes that were 1980's charactatures. Can I tell you how horribly old that made me feel, to know that my generation is long enough ago they can make Halloween costumes out of it.

There was, for example, a Miami Vice costume, and a Punk Rocker costume.* and, God help us, a Madonna costume.

Scary.

*Which, frankly, is much more 'new wave' than punk, thank you very much.

My house is officially decorated for Halloween. I'm pleased because I dug through the Attic of Doom and actually found some Halloween stuff I haven't seen in ages. So yay. Still can't find this little ornament I know I have - it's one of those buildings that light up. It is very cute, and I wish I knew where it was. Sigh. Still, I found my Halloween tree thingys and my table cloth and some cool candles. Perhaps I shall take photos and bore share them with you.

Meanwhile, we got Charlie's Halloween costume today. He is going to be, in his own words, "A Human Torch!" It is a really cute costume. The best bit is it comes with this flamey-hat thing, so he doesn't need a mask. And at Christmas, he can be Heatmiser.

my husband brought Home the Simpsons 1st season DVD because he said he got it cheaply at this store where he buys cheap DVDs. It occured to me that I've been watching The Simpsons my entire adult life, as it started the Christmas after I graduated college. Scary.

It also occurs to me I really shouldn't watch medical dramas like House, because today my neck hurts and I thought, "Oh no! Meningitis!"

In other Television news, I'm pleased to say I get the new Logo channel. It's the world's first all gay network, so naturally they had a Xena marathon. Quite the coincidence, since I bought those Xena books yeterday.

I was a bit surprised, though. Most of the epsiodes had to do with Ceasar, which is all fine and dandy, but there are plenty of other episodes that I personally think would be more appropriate for this channel - the ones that hint very strongly at Xena and Gabrielle's, ahem, close relationship. But whatever. I just hope it will be a permanent part of the line up because I really love that show.

What can I tell you that isn't<\i> television related? Not much, sadly. Been that kind of a day.
