It was hot and I am whiny
Jun. 8th, 2008 08:18 amYesterday I had my penultimate performance in Taming.
We are having a total and horrible heatwave this weekend.
There is no air conditioning in the building where we do the show. (Well, yesterday, our 'lighting guy', who totally could be played by Steve Bushemi, brought in two window air conditioners, but they didn't really help. Possibly they kept it from getting worse, but I doubt it)
We lost half the audience at intermission because it was too hot to be in there, and I'm sure the group that stayed were thinking, 'My God, is this never going to end?'
I don't know if I have ever been that uncomfortable before in my life. By the end I honestly couldn't think any more. I forgot a huge chunk of my monologue, even, and I didn't care. Anything to get off the stage sooner before I passed out.
I've really not enjoyed this play that much, and it sucks because I'm finally the female lead, and it's a role I always wanted to do.
Thanks to the stupid double-casting of the leads, I only get 4 shows (three proper ones, and one 'charity' thing we're doing next weekend). My first audience was minimal - not even 10 people. The 2nd audience was okay, but my third audience melted away, so I don't feel like I've really had a proper performance. (Because let's face it, acting is the only art form that REALLY needs an audience to be complete.)
Doctor Who was awesome, though.
