Costumes

Forgot to mention yesterday that Target had a range of costumes that were 1980's charactatures. Can I tell you how horribly old that made me feel, to know that my generation is long enough ago they can make Halloween costumes out of it.

There was, for example, a Miami Vice costume, and a Punk Rocker costume.* and, God help us, a Madonna costume.

Scary.


*Which, frankly, is much more 'new wave' than punk, thank you very much.

I feel absolutely ancient.

I had a pink Miami Vice t-shirt when I was in junior high. I also had muscle shirts.

And the punk rocker hardly looks punk.

Whoa. $49 for the Miami Vice one is pretty steep for a Target Halloween costume. Wonder if anyone will actually pay that much to look that silly.

I'll join the old brigade! Yep, I remember when those were real clothes. Real TV clothes, anyway. I don't think I saw many people dress quite that over-the-top in real life. And I myself was far too horrified at the notion of conforming to parrot the trends so exactly. I was a bit obsessive about being "unique."

How old will I sound if I say, "What's Miami Vice"? The punk rocker costume is funny... I could create that costume out of items that I currently have in my closet, right down to the Converse sneakers and the red tie.

I don't know what I'm going to be this year. Dracula has been suggested. I may do that, but it seems so cliche.
