Forgot to mention yesterday that Target had a range of costumes that were 1980's charactatures. Can I tell you how horribly old that made me feel, to know that my generation is long enough ago they can make Halloween costumes out of it.

There was, for example, a Miami Vice costume, and a Punk Rocker costume.* and, God help us, a Madonna costume.

Scary.

*Which, frankly, is much more 'new wave' than punk, thank you very much.

I forget that you were in your toddler years when Miami Vice was on the telly. To be fair, I never watched it, but it was a rather trend-setting cop show at the time. Don Johnson and this other guy played vice cops who had fancy cars and fancy boats because, I guess, they were pretending to be drug dealers or something. They had artfully stubbled faces and wore pastel jackets with pastel shirts and loafers without socks and it was totally a trend. Did you ever see The Wedding Singer? Drew Barrymore's fiance dresses like that at one point.

Anyway - it was the first "MTV influenced" show in that it had lots of cool music montages.

But don't pay attention to Drew Barrymore for the '80s look, because for some reason she was exempt. Especially her hair. I liked that movie overall, but when everyone else had to look silly for the visual joke, it bugged me that her appearance was so anachronistic. She time-traveled from the '90s, I guess.

Hadn't really thought about that, but you're right. I'm trying to remember what she wore. She had that big necklace, but that's all I can remember. And she was in her waitress outfit a lot. Huh. Now I'm going to have to watch it again.

Know what was a good show and it should have lasted but didn't? Do Over. It was about this man who gets electecuted and suddenly finds himself back as a 14 year old in the 80's - re-living his life, but with the knowledge of what happened, and the chance to fix it this time around. It was really good, and surprisingly sweet, and they did a good job of 'doing' the 80's without overdoing it. /random comment

I can't remember her clothes beyond the waitress outfit either -- it was mainly the hair. A nice, straight little bob, no teasing, no hairsprayed-to-the-heavens bangs for her!
