Spent an hour an a half in this 'orientation' at unemployment today. 8:30 in the morniing in a cold, cold room while the lady walked everyone through the process. Very, very, slowly. Was as dull as it sounds, and I still don't know if I am going to get benefits because they have to call me on Friday to determine if I am still getting money from my old job, or something. See there was this bit that asked if I got any money in lieu of notice, and I did. One whole week. So now they are saying I might not be eligible because I am still getting money. Which I'm not. I'm sure it will all work out but still...blech.
The interviews yesterday went okay. The first one was part time, and it would be an interesting job, but I just don't think I can do part time, as much as I would like to. Can't really swing it financially, and in the summer when Charlie isn't in school, my entire paycheck would be going to some sort of day care, so, not worth it. Plus I wouldn't get paid for sick days or anything, and that's a drag.
The second job is interesting, and I think the guy liked me, but he has other people to interview, so I'm not really terribly optimistic. But it went well, so who knows.
And in the meanwhile, I am drifting along today in a state of ennui. I've a million things I could be doing, but I can't seem to muster up the energy to do anything.
In lighter news my friend in Florida sent Charlie a Toys R Us gift certificate, and so we used it to get him a copy of The Fantastic Four. He was very happy. Squealed with delight whenever the Human Torch did anything. It was a cute movie. I enjoyed it. Not groundbreaking by any means, but it didn't need to be. It was fun. Such pretty boys in it. Plenty of almost naked shots of the actor who was Johnny Storm, which was nice, and frankly I think that guy...Michael Whatever who was The Thing...is really hot, too. Should definitely go on
hotbaldies if he isn't already. And Mr Fantastic was cute, and the guy from Charmed who was the evil guy was nice to look at until he went all Darth Vader with the mask.
It needs a sequel. I would like to see the Fantastic Four actually saving humanity, now that we've gotten the origins out of the way. In this movie they didn't really save people, other then themselves. I mean, they saved the people on the bridge, and that was cool, and they stopped the bad guy, but there was no evil plot to release chemicals into the water supply or whatever it is Super Villians tend to plot.
Aside from "Jeffery"*, has there been any romantic comedy that features a gay couple? Because Brokeback Mountain is all well and good, but I don't like serious, depressing films. I want a movie that is the standard "meet cute, humourous conflict, humours conflict resolution with over the top happy ending" type story, only with same sex couples.
*Which, despite being a comedy and really, really funny, still dealt with serious issues. i.e. AIDS, and isn't exactly what I'm talking about. Patrick Stewart rocked in it though.

on 2005-12-13 06:56 pm (UTC)The Broken Hearts Club has something for everybody, but it's a little too cynical to be thought of as a romantic comedy.
I've heard that Trick is very good, but I've never seen it, so I wouldn't be able to tell you.
Gay romantic comedies are hard to come by, because too many filmmakers seem to think that if you have films with gay characters at their center, then you have to make up for it by dealing with serious issues.
I, personally, would love to see a romantic comedy where the fact that it's two guys at the center of it all isn't even addressed; it's just accepted as normal by everyone else in the film. *sigh* Maybe I'll have to buckle down and write me a screenplay.

on 2005-12-13 07:02 pm (UTC)Yes! That's what I mean. Just a love story, but it happens to be two guys (or two girls) instead of one of each. And the fact that they are gay isn't an issue. It just is.

on 2005-12-13 07:58 pm (UTC)All Over the Guy is one of my favorites.
Maurice, of course is the classic Gay Happy Ending movie, if you like that sumptous beautiful Merchant-Ivory schtick.
Torch Song Trilogy at least ends hopefully, if not entirely happily.
Velvet Goldmine is beautiful and weird, but not exactly a happy ending, either.

on 2005-12-13 08:11 pm (UTC)Brokeback Mountain looks unbearably depressing. I mean, I'm going to see it because it's gay cowboys, but it will undoubtedly depress the hell out of me. Um...I'm trying to think of gay movies now :-P I hear "But I'm a Cheerleader" is amazing, though I've never seen it. I'll get back to you on that. I never heard of this "Jeffery." Must investigate.

on 2005-12-13 11:31 pm (UTC)And "Priscilla, Queen of the Desert," which isn't a romantic comedy, but is good fun.
"Jeffrey" depressed the ever-loving crap out of me, aside from the bit about cater-waiters. I was only there for the Patrick Stewart. And the male lead, Michael B. Whozzisface, used to creep me out on Days of our Lives, and still creeps me out.

on 2005-12-13 11:32 pm (UTC)Basically, I only know lesbian movies, and I am in a rush, but I had to contribute!
on 2005-12-14 04:07 am (UTC)Oh, and this isn't what you asked, but I saw part of Ma Vie en Rose recently, and OMG CUTEST LITTLE TRANSGIRL EVER.
Oh, The Birdcage! Tell me you've seen that!
Do you like Kevin Kline? I think you may have said you do; if so, check out In and Out.
And in the "lesbian movies I have issues with but their scripts are pretty effective" category, Chasing Amy is fun, probably Kevin Smith's best, even if the middle turns into every straight guy's fantasy of lesbianism ever. Likewise, Kissing Jessica Stein is amusing, though I've plenty of issues with it.
If you'd asked for angsty lesbian movies, the list would be a hell of a lot longer. :)
