So, this weekend our new computer* with the broadband and every good thing up and died on me. It was working fine all day Friday, I go out to dinner and a movie, and come back to find that the screen is blank. I re-boot, get some sort of error thing advising me to reboot using the last known configuation, I do so and the "Windows XP" logo pops up, the little blue line thing does it's little blue line thing, and nothing. Blank screen. Try safe mode, get a bunch of code I don't understand and nothing. Computer go bye-bye.

There was a big storm Friday, but according to Husband, he was on it after that, and it was working, so I don't think the storm did anything. I don't know what is wrong with it, but whatever it is, it looks like it is something expensive.

Fortunately we have an older computer, that hopefully will take the broadband and whatnot. We just have to set it up.

Long weekend, however, was lovely. Cut to spare friends'pages )

So that's it for me. I need to continue to catch up with the friend's page. Is hard when one misses so many days. Sigh.

*Husband bought new computer at this store that buys and sells things, and it was really, really, inexpensive. Now we know why.

PS - I have a squillion icons now, yet can't decide which would be the most appropriate for this entry, so I'm leaving my default on. Kind of sad, really.

Icon help

Calling anyone who is good at icon making. I need some assistance.

On Sunday, while on the boat in the evening, I got chilly, and my sister's SIL kindly loaned me a sweatshirt to wear. On the sweatshirt was a picture of this licence plate )

Being the LJ addict I am, I immediately thought, "This would make a great icon!" So I found the picture, as you see, but when I try to make it small enough to fit the LJ icon regulations, you can't read the smaller words, which ruins the whole (admittedly weak) joke.

So, is it possible to make this picture into a readable icon?

Thanks.

You Are 29% American
America: You don't love it or want to leave it.
But you wouldn't mind giving it an extreme make over.
On the 4th of July, you'll fly a freak flag instead...
And give Uncle Sam a sucker punch!

Pretty much felt this way over the weekend. Enjoyed the days off, enjoyed the firework shows, but couldn't help feeling a bit bitter over the state the country is in, and cringed every time the word 'freedom' was mentioned in a song during the firework display.

And that "Proud to be an American" song should be taken out and shot.

Friday evening Charlie and I went with his friend Devon, Devon's moms, and our friends Tracy and Joanne to see Batman Begins.

Yes. I realise now that it wasn't the best movie to take 7 year olds, but we thought it would be okay. I'd read reviews, and it didn't sound horribly violent, and they both know who Batman is, so we thought it would be okay.

Um...It wasn't.

Firstly, we missed the earlier showing because our dinner at Friday's took forever, and I forgot to check how long the movie ran. Three hours plus! It was loooonnnnngggggg.

Then the movie was rather talky, when it wasn't blowing things up. Talky is good, I personally enjoyed lulls between things going boom, but I did think there'd be more Batman being Batman then there was, and the boys, of course, couldn't care any less why Bruce Wayne was all angsty and sad. I deliberately took Charlie out to the bathroom (and Devon came with us) during the bit where Bruce Wayne's parents get killed (and if that's a spoiler, then you obviously don't know enough about Batman to care that I spoiled this bit. Hopefully) because I thought that might be a bit too disturbing.

They were pretty well behaved overall, although I wouldn't blame anyone if they were glaring at us. There was actually an even younger child in the theatre who was really noisy, thus diverting the attention away from our boys, which was a good thing.

Anyway, it was pretty good, and I'd recommend it to anyone who likes that sort of thing.
