I'm really beginning to detest the phrase 'the victims and their families'. We're hearing it way, way too much these days.

I also am not fond of the fact that this is the 'worst massacre' in American history. The fact this is something America keeps breaking its record on is not a happy thought to dwell upon.

Here's my idea to try to stop this gun violence. I know we can't outlaw guns simply because the main job requirement for any criminal is to not obey the law, and making guns illegal won't keep them out of the hands of people who'd use them illegally anyway.

This is what we do. We control the production and sale of bullets. Depending on the gage, or whatever its called, a person would only be allowed a certain amount of rounds at a time. Like, if you have a hunting gun, you could get, say 10 bullets. You can come back and get more, but you will have to bring back the shell casings of the bullets you used to prove they've been used and you are not storing them up.

Each bullet could have a code on it too, so it can be traced back to the original sale.

For handguns, you can have one bullet only. If you think having a gun in the house will protect your family, then you have one bullet in which to do it. This way if someone breaks into the house, they won't walk away with free bullets. It will also keep people from randomly shooting at sounds and killing their curfew-breaking teenager, because if you only have one bullet, you're going to be selective about when you use it.

And they shouldn't be easy to buy. The sale of bullets should be in the hands of the police, not Wal-Mart. This would also help bring in income for them, so they can hire more people to protect the towns in which they work, etc.

What do you guys think?

Here's the thing about Doctor Who. They can't seem to go a whole series without making me cry at least once. I cried like a complete moron at Father's Day, in series one, just for starters, and the 2nd series made me cry practically every other episode. And now, just three episodes in and I'm tearing up during a hymn. And cut for spoilers for episode 3 )

What is wrong with me?

I do have to say so far I think series 3 is the best of the lot. It's a close run thing, but I am just really loving this series. I like Martha, and I like how Rose isn't forgotten - she was too well beloved both of the doctor and of the fans to just pretend like she didn't exist. I thought Gridlock was fantastic. Excellent story, lots of humour, kittens. You can't go wrong.

Oh, I've re-started working on my story I tried to do for Nanowrimo. I think I got over the block I had about it. I made a couple of changes, mostly to make the 'mystery story' less confusing, and I think I'm going to be able to move forward. I really like my character, Carys, and I want to give her a whole story. I like her because she's American, but her Dad is Welsh, and she spent much of her life in the UK, so I can throw in lots of my Anglophlia.

Here's a question though, for you across the pond. I want to give her a good, Welsh surname, and naturally the only one I can think of is Jones. Anyone have a good, solid name I can borrow?

And I also wanted to have her UK relatives not live in Wales. I had them in Newcastle, for no particular reason except it is a place I want to go, but I'm wondering if I should change it. The relatives are an Aunt and Uncle and a grandmother, and they don't play any part in the story, but it where she'd have spent her holidays, brushing up on her English slang and such. The way I had it in my head is the Aunt and Uncle moved from Wales for work, and when the grandmother got older she moved to live nearer them. Would Newcastle be a logical place or should I try somewhere more South? Bristol maybe? Or maybe I should just have them living in Hyde.
