Okay, is this simple precaution or raging paranoia? Suspicious note diverts flight

About 40 minutes into the flight, a note saying, "Bomb, bomb, bomb ... meet the parents," was found on a crumpled napkin with a wad of chewing gum in it.

I suppose in today's world it is better to be safe than blown into itty bits, but really...it was a napkin, shoved behind the tray table. With gum in it. Not exactly the last word in scary.

Our major roads now have these big electronic signs that tell everyone to report suspicious activity for a safer New Jersey

I appreciate the need for this, and logically I see where the big signs make sense, but every time I drive past one I can't help but think that they should just have it say "Big Brother is watching you" and have done with it.

I don't understand the terrorist mentality. I don't know what they expect to gain - Bush says 'don't yield' but how could we, even if we wanted to?

There's no logic to what they do - they aren't demanding anything - it's not like they are some kind of James Bond villian, sitting in his secret underground lair stroking a long haired cat and laughing maniacially. I don't think they even know what they are doing. They've been so long caught up in violence for the sake of violence, I don't think they would know what to do if all the world leaders told them, "Okay, you win. What do you want?"

And it would be nice if they realised all they are doing is creating more excuses for Bush and his cronies to continue their agenda of forcing Democracy on other countries in an effort to control the oil.

That being said, I wonder what would happen if someone from the IRA stood up and said in an irate voice, 'Dudes! We totally set those bombs. El Quada has nothing to do with it. It's us. Won't someone pay attention to our agenda? Hello?'

ETA: US President George Bush told reporters at the G8 Summit in Gleneagles that "the war on terror goes on." Fuck you, Bush. Just shut up. This is your fault. Terrorism isn't a country you can fight, it's a state of mind, and every bomb that is dropped in Iraq or anywhere else is like a seed that breeds more hatred of the country that dropped it.
