charliesmum: (bears don't skateboard)
So explain to me why I was still awake at 6:30, even though I could've slept in. No matter, though. I've things I need to do today, and now I have more time in which to do them.

I feel a bit guilty - I'm going off to spend money on things for Charlie's birthday, and, as I don't have much money to spare, a part of me feels guilty for not sending that money to the hurrican victims instead. But how would one explain that to a child? It's times like this I truly understand what the expression 'the road to hell is paved with good intentions' means.

At any rate, I need to go get some final things for the party, most importantly food, as well as party favours and so forth.

Incidentally if you want to see some really good coverage of what is currently going on, I recommend checking out [livejournal.com profile] liz_marcs blog. She's done a nice job of culling information. [livejournal.com profile] pracuel also does a good job.

So Charlie is ready to go, and so am I. Have a good morning everyone, and I'll talk to you later. And [livejournal.com profile] elfmanfan The offer for water ice and sympathy is still open!

I have the biggest crush on Ray Nagin right now. I know that sounds totally flippant, but [livejournal.com profile] carlanime can back me up on this. I just love how he yelled at the Feds. He is articulate even in his anguish, and he wasn't worried about spinning things or even about getting people angry at him. He was upset and he wanted answers. And, come on, he's really rather handsome don't you think?

Also, I'm really enjoying CNN.com's coverage of this whole thing. It the linked article it says (See video of CNN asking why FEMA is clueless about conditions). Pretty straightforward, that.

Anyway...

There is something wrong with Charlie's hamster. His bum (or something) seems swollen. I wonder if he got bitten by a misquito - there was one flying around the house. He seems lively enough, but I don't know what to do. I shouldn't have pets.

I used 'blow this for a game of soldiers' on a comment on a community today, and someone asked me what it meant and where it was from. After being totally thrilled that once again someone mistook my pretentiousness for actual Britishness, I told him what it meant (and hopefully I was correct), but I've no idea what's its origins are. Does anyone know?

I used to wonder about soap operas - the people in them would be going through some enormous crisis, and yet still have time to get dressed up and put their pearls on. But I guess the truth is, life goes on, no matter what happens.
